So i have this crossover; not the greatest i know!

Crossover : PA Accessories : Maplin Electronics

      And it has 2 channels, ( 1 low/ 1 mid/high) or 3 channels (1 low/ 1 mid/ 1 high)

i’ve been using it 2 way, so 1 low and 1 mid/high, and been using 1 amp for low (running 2 scoops) and 1 amp for high (running 2 mid-tops)

is there any cabling where i would be able to run 2 amps from the low channel and 2 amps from the mid/high channel??

Wanting to add more speakers into the equation.

Do your amps have a ‘link through’ connector on each channel? If so, use that to link out of one amp into the next.

Otherwise you can just use a Y-split cable.

they don’t have a “link through” connector i’m afraid, and as for a y cable how would this work, because on the back of the crossover there are unbalanced and balanced jacks, so i’ve sent the unbalanced and balanced to each channel of the amp i’m plugging into, jack to xlr ( x2) so unbalanced jack to channel “A” and balanced jack to channel “B” would i need jacks that split into 2 then? 1 jack into 2??

use only the balanced outputs on each channel, and connect the Y cable to that. So you are splitting each output on each channel as balanced connections to however many amps you have.

How Bizarre. Yeh, what you’re doing would work, although GL’s suggestion is more sensible as it will make sure that each pair of amplifiers is being fed with exactly the same signal (plus it’s good practice to stay away from unbalanced connections where possible anyway – you wouldn’t see them on a pro crossover/LMS).

I’ve had a look at the back panel of this crossover and it is a bizzare setup as even on Behringers etc you have a TRS for either unbalanced or balanced and XLR for a balanced connection.

the way I am reading this even sounds like chutney joe may have accidentally double wired the same audio output to the same amp and even if he hasn’t that does seem like a recipe for an unwanted hum/ground noise loop.

Add to that a laptop DJ on the same mains supply and a earthed laptop PSU and that might not sound so good, and that is the kind of thing what will trip you up at a event if you aren’t careful…

the cables you need are cheap at CPC | CPC – Over 100, 000 products from one of the worlds leading distributors of electronic and related products. and a lot of them are on special offer at the moment (always worth geting a few spares..)
