April 22, 2008 at 1:00 pm #1161044this sounds like just one cop and the rest of the bobbies not even approving of what he did. Chaps like him tend to be arseholes even within the police station so even other cops will be happy to hold back his career…
a cop where I used to live was like that but a complaint got upheld against him (and this was in the height of the thatcher days!) – he lost his chance to go in CID and was a village bobby for the rest of his time in the force.
The man still had a big chip on his shoulder but never got the chance to rough anyone else up as the senior officers would always watch him and always partner him with the “do gooder PC PC” you get these days (it was funny to watch them both, as he would behave like he was in a 70s cop film and his colleague (who was OK for a bobby!) would try to calm him down)
bear in mind though that if you have a successful complaint against the police they put a marker on your record (or create one if you never had one) and all the rest of the bobbies know about it, some of them will be on your case in that manor for minor stuff.. happened to a mate of mine, and our entire group was put under CID surveillance as “dealers and “Spiral Tribes Junior wing”) (we were just teenagers taking our decks to peoples house parties!)

Personally I wouldn’t bother pursuing it though. More hassle than it’s worth.

April 22, 2008 at 5:55 pm #1161045thing is if you win it wasn’t as if they gave you an old skool “sweeney” style kicking, and the cops will have a record of you as complaining
every time you are out they will try and fuck you over for something…
OK this was the 90s but i remember some black guy in the Midlands had a complaint upheld, they gave him £250 compensation
a week later the same cops stopped him. he asked “what is this now”?
they said “suspicion of theft of £250”
And this was some journo or clever chap what was always writing for the guardian etc so the cops knew he would report this in the papers..
OK things may have changed now so they may not hound you openly but will always be watching to see if you have drugs or are involved with anything dodgy, this is what happened to my mate when his complaint was successful, he was always targeted by coppers from then on.
The sheer paranoia of this (especially with being a raver) ended up with him going on heroin in the end 😥
The only time it is worth it is if you are genuinely a goody two shoes or becoming one (like you became a christian and always went church instead of doing drugs lol)
being from an ethnic minority and a Londoner I was always brought up that you didn’t speak to coppers unless they spoke to you and there was no choice in doing so (like you had actually been nicked!)
although when this has happened I have always been civil and been treated well even when I had done something wrong…

April 22, 2008 at 6:01 pm #1161065yeah i wouldn’t of spoken to them it was just there was a shit load of police near my house .. and was being naturaly inquisitve … lets time i try that one tho .. and as for maknig the complaint the more i talk to people about it the more i am thinknig it might not be such a good idea .. even tho this thing shouldn’t happen and if i dont report it nothing will be done about it or simila things in the futchor … but then again if it is going to directly effect my futchor might not bother

April 22, 2008 at 9:46 pm #1161070think it hasn’t helped that all those cops now get to wear those neat kevlar storm trooper outfits. Social control has gone to their heads..
