We upgraded to new forum software last night.
New funtionality includes a substantially improved calendar with support for recuring or ranged events and reminders, user reputations, lots of new thread view and posting options and better performance. Also we have an online chat client in the works as well…

December 18, 2004 at 11:49 am #1063346Excellent stuff – like the new colour scheme as well, its so much easier to read now 🙂
December 18, 2004 at 3:13 pm #1063351AnonymousYea, technically, great improvement, and prolly improved visability, but i do miss the old colour scheme, is was easier on the eyes, not so bright and crisp, and had a bit more personality to it.
sorry to be a pedantic nit-picker but i just had to say it.
im gonna go and investigate the new potential.
December 18, 2004 at 3:34 pm #1063352AnonymousThe calender’s wicked – love the details showing when u hover over the night.
the ‘new posts’ bit is quality- blatantly needed, dont have to get loads of emails any more…
the member list is fresh, easy to navigate etc, there are a couple of people who allegedly last posted here in 1970, so hats of to you for being so ahead of the game back then 😉
its ashame i cant personalise the colour scheme, but hey, you cant have everything. sterling (or should that be guilder?) work, dude, cheers for the effort.
December 18, 2004 at 8:06 pm #1063355good work mate… very posh 😎
December 19, 2004 at 9:46 am #1063342I was also very attached to the old layout but it’d been time to move on for a while now even if I was worried about making changes to something so complex and heavily modified in case anything went wrong. Anyway along with New Posts, notice you also have an Active Topics drop down menu at the left of the nav bar. And if you saw how many variables there are in creating new layouts and how complicated it is, you’d understand why I’m not offering more choices… 🙂

December 20, 2004 at 11:02 pm #1063349Well it’s going to take some getting used to.
I’m going to miss the old look and feel. But i’m sure the change is for the better in the long run!
December 21, 2004 at 8:51 am #1063340AnonymousWe now have our own chat room available, there’s a link on the left hand side of the navbar, let me know if there are any problems.

aye – I can understand the nostalgia for the “old-skool” look of the original PV website (with light text on dark backgrounds) – there are a lot of memories I associate with it but I always found it a bit harder to read in the daytime on CRT monitors when there was a lot of glare.
This one is way better – particularly the WYSYWIG editor and the colour scheme is similar to my work intranet and the web-enabled Oracle build – which has obvious advantages 😉
also now readable on an IPAQ (the old colour scheme wasn’t) – sometimes I want to check out party details but am nowhere near a wired comms circuit..
haven’t been able to properly check out the chatroom – can’t install new software (even javascripts) at work w/o going through “change control” and ports blocked out from here but will try it in the evening – never been much of a chatroom user TBH but could be good fun as we get more ppl..
there’s so much cool new features on here now!
BTW well done for how smoothly this happened – no downtime or long-running problems, this is service way better than many corporate IT places 😀

Very impressive how everything has been transfered over without flaw. It would fry my brain to even think about attempting such a task.

December 22, 2004 at 5:17 pm #1063344I definately shouldn’t tell you how pissed I was when I moved everything over in that case 🙂
Having said that I did wait 6 months which gave me time to think it through…

When, I saw this I had to reach for my sunglasses. Had to stand back and look to see if I had clicked on the right link on the front page.
Still, am liking the new look very much 😀 But like most, I will miss the old home 😉
December 29, 2004 at 7:49 pm #1063345After installing the latest version of Trillian intant messager today (http://www.trillian.cc/ – it does MSN, ICQ, AIM & YAHOO all in one), I started playing with it’s NEWS/RSS pluggin which allows websites to ‘stream’ content in news style headlines and I now have partyvibe pop ups at the bottom left of my screen appearing every now again, I love it! 🙂
