Such a shame –
from what I heard on the radio – about 10 days ago a photo of this glorious stag was in the papers then a ‘wealthy businessman’ was allowed to ‘kull’ it…
I understand that land owners need to ‘make a living’ and that population sometimes needs to be kept safe – but its rutting season – which I didnt think they kulled during – and a bit of a co-incidence about the photo and its death….

October 26, 2010 at 9:24 pm #1230414this is why a lot of people who are interested in natural history don’t release their photos….
unfortunately money overrules anything in rural areas (especially with a Tory government back in power) and only people who are trusted by the Establishment get to pick up a .240 or .30 rifle with hollow point ammo in a country with some of the strictest firearms laws in the world!

Forestry can’t act as he’s not committed any offence, they aren’t endangered and its all been done within the law and the market. 1984 is correct, many people in rural areas see the land as their source of income and only protect nature begrudgingly if it gets in the way of their revenue making. there are exceptions (such as a very strong Green movement up near where Process lives) but the lure of the “free market” is more powerful than any other forces, after all markets started off as ways to sell agricultural produce..

Thats because insexts arent “cute” Any animal has the right to live, unless it’s a shark or any insect. Sharks are alowed to live more now they’re endangered, insects however? Well you’re allowed to destroy entire hives with scalding water.
That’s the media for you.October 31, 2010 at 7:46 pm #1230421
