September 14, 2006 at 4:56 pm #1089694having had a look at a few more pictures I think it is as GoodDog and the Rev pointed out a common frog (Rana temporaria).
Toads are somewhat wartier and walk rather than hop… this creature was definitely hopping
The angle it was taken from made it look rather toad-like – bear in mind though it was pissing down with rain, pitch dark other than the office lights and I wasn’t really up for chasing a frog across a damp courtyard to get any more pictures – I’m not Steve bloody Irwin!

September 14, 2006 at 6:26 pm #1089696Digressing slightly I saw what I thought must be a humming bird last weekend, stood there and watched it from less than a meter away for several minutes. This was in south east UK !!!
Rummaged around on the net and found out it was actually a Hummingbird Hawk moth…wiedest think I’ve seen in ages..have a look
