Remco (who is also an engineer for a community station) built his own DI box (trafo/ground lift) and also a signal lamp unit. He has posted the construction details on radioforum.nl and I have got permission from him to translate the articles if anyone is interested in doing similar. You can buy Conrad stuff here but I suspect we get stitched up on the exchange rate (in fact it would be cheaper for me to buy the components in Euros as they get sent to the UK from NL anyway, but it would take about a week to get here and I bet I end up only getting the parcel 3 weeks later with “OPENED BY HM REVENUE AND CUSTOMS” tape all across it.

Farnell / CPC do have similar components but I couldn’t find any 12V LED strips (a lot easier to deal with than hand soldering even standard size LEDs).

Although the final cost of the DI box isn’t too far off a ready made one, Remco’s design is more versatile and you can select the trafo (decent Neutrik ones aren’t as expensive as you might think). you will of course need two if its a stereo channel, or might want to adapt the connectors.

TBH I think a robust DI box is an essential item for any laptop DJ’s to keep out all the PSU noise (especially if the laptop is run from a genset or a power source of unknown quality)

NOT… Remco Roelofs? That would be a coincidence.

If so, best wishes and regards to Kai.

Conrad stitched me up… but that was nearly 14 years ago.
