Personally i think the sites lost a lot of soul and looks vibeless now with that new pvr banner…

TBH, I use the extensions to make the net look the way I want and for controlling what info it gets from my browsing.
March 30, 2013 at 4:24 pm #1270192I like it, and it’s minimalistic and goes well with the theme of the rest of the page, but I can’t help thinking it’s a tad bland (no offense Dr.B, just the old one had loads to look at; I know the style you’re going for though and it works very well in that respect and fits the layout really well also). The “I” in radio is well cool, and it says what needs to be said about the site. It should definitely help stop the sex pest spammers who are looking for a different kind of party vibe to what we offer (music parties and the likes). :laugh_at:
March 30, 2013 at 4:30 pm #1270184The old banners were nearly 10 years old and with design/software changes were already shrunk to the point it was hard to see. And with the younger generation particularly not just using desktops and laptops but other devices with way smaller screens a “busier” logo will go unnoticed anyway.
Plus if someone has a mobile device but its not connected to a local wireless network they are being charged for the amount of data they use so its not fair sending them them excessive data for things like logos when it would be better to use if for interaction with the site and/or listening to music.
March 30, 2013 at 4:41 pm #1270193Would it be possible to have an option in settings to turn off a banner and only show this current banner? Kinda like how people can choose to “show signatures” or not. This way if people were on limited bandwidth they could turn off the funky one and have the sleek one. It’s probably not that easy though, as I imagine the show signature setting is already a part of the vbulletin software.
I was more thinking of a new new banner, or snazzing up this one even more, rather then putting the old banner back, as with the new branding you need a new logo what ever style it is.
On another note, I just thought, it’d be really cool if there was some way we could have something where members could put their own artistic touch on the site. Maybe like a link to a graffiti wall like we used to have, but one that works in MS paint style rather then stamps (at least I think that’s how the old one worked, can’t really remember), and is live like online whiteboards are.
It’d be really cool say to have an upwards scrolling white page, that the top half you could see but not edit, and the bottom half you could draw on. Then as the page scrolls, say 500 pixels @ midnight each night, it preservers the previous drawings bit by bit in the top half and freeing up more space to draw at the bottom. Then as the top half disappears altogether off the top of the page it gets written to an image file that people can download, say at the end of the month (or end of the week, it’d need testing to see what kinda time scales work and what kind of amount of scrolling works).
Pretty sure Dr.B will have a heart attack about the prospect of having to get something like that coded haha, but just a random idea I just had, thought I’d share it. 🙂
March 30, 2013 at 4:46 pm #1270185Its possible to detect exactly what device someone is using and switch layout automatically but if its not an out of the box feature what seems like a trivial change often requires a lot of recoding behind the scenes.

The old banner was much livelier, the old pictures bring back memories and seemed to sum up the theme of the place, much better IMO
March 30, 2013 at 7:52 pm #1270186A significant amount of site traffic these days is for the radio streams. I can see the active listeners only for the live stream / old skool and literally the whole world is tuning in 24/7.
bear in mind a lot of those listeners know enough English to read these site but maybe are shy to participate in the forums, or even might be incurring personal risk doing so (not every country in the world allows its young citizens to freely discuss controversial subjects). Even if they are in a free country writing in a second language especially to join a forum with an existing community isn’t easy, you feel shy and embarrassed about making mistakes.
Also other people might listen to the music in the background and be busy with something else – cooking, DIY, looking after children and animals and thus don’t have time to post.
So things like this are a subtle way of engaging with the wider community of people who use this site.

I would love to have a more free party style banner but the site isn’t revolved around free parties any more. I have more on my mind but i’m not ready to voice my opinion yet as it is half arsed and possible invalid.
All can be fixed brother, just chill.

April 1, 2013 at 12:59 pm #1270200Why not do two banners, have both on the main login page one going to forums ( the great old school banner ) and one going to the radio ( the new banner with that cool broadcast tower )
Then when on the forum see the forum banner ( 3/4 width ) with a radio banner/button ( 1/4 width )
and on the radio have the radio banner ( 3/4 width ) with a forum banner/button ( 1/4 width )
TBH too much stuff is in the main banner space right now ( the top 1 1/2” of the screen ), that would look better simpler & less crowded, just split in two 75/25, and all the other functions currently in the top right of the screen put on the menu bar below
BTW bit mashed so hope that makes sense, thinking & typing kinda fast lol

I like the promotion of the radio / music side of things and the old school ‘I’I did like the back ground photo and all, but hey – time moves on and stuff changes

Some of them designs are pretty nice, just I don’t think any fit with what I imagine Doc to have in his head.
