Not sure if I posted this before, but here goes.

I use korg ES1. ER1 and ESX, and I also loop live synth sounds in a BOSS RC50.
I create parts and bits and remix them live on the spot, only on the latest track I had a go at a bit of editing and adding voice samples, but I really prefer to ride that wave of sound as it comes, much more fun and interesting.

I thought you just posted a screen shot of your soundcloud page for a sec then :laugh_at:

Some of them are too mute. The last one, and the first (but not as much) are good. You should try setting up some FX before like reverb and the likes to add in .. as it sounds like it’s too dry.

Very creative though, which is what music is all about! 😉

thanks for the comments, and yeah I should have mentionned the clicky for linky but I thought rather people think I’m a noob for a sec than me taking them for noobs, if you get my drift.

I’m sorry for the poor sound quality, I recorded that through the audio in of my laptop with a bit of trial and error, and I must confess I’m not very good with all things mastering, I’m more the mad scientist piling up layers of stuff… (I did destroy a couple of speakers during my free party days though, luckily my friends and people were happy enough with the performance not to lynch me before I paid them back ^^)

So I’m always glad to get some hints and advice on how to finalize that creativity, the best thing would be to team up with someone like me but sound engineer wise, I only played at free parties (in France, thank you spiral tribe for the gift you brought us so long ago), and I know that if I want to do a bit more than just amateur stuff I need to work on the sound quality.

I recently purchased a Korg D888, I’m hoping it’ll help me to be more precise in this, once I managed to understand the manual, as usual.

hey no worries for the comments, I have time at work and I feel it’s the polite thing to do. Didn’t realize it was you though ^^

Thanks for the welcome, I created this account ages ago but as I moderate on a French tekno forum I didn’t have much time to wander here, I’ll dig up my intro post it’s gotta be there somewhere 🙂

normally the audio in on a laptop is not the best. they are usually specified for mic input rather than line and even those which supposedly can handle both levels tend to distort badly when they are fed with stronger signals (similar occurs even with otherwise decent portable recorders that the Japanese make).

Outboard soundcards which can handle line level input and mixers are affordable these days.

if you are staying in London for a bit then buy your equipment in England, its cheaper (or has been every time I’ve compared prices).

as I said I went for the Korg D888, since I use my mixer to alter my patterns live I thought it’d be cool to have a mixer than can actually record my live completely, and allow me to go back on stuff.
Up to now I played live relying on inspiration, but that meant I never could reproduce the same performance the way I did, which is conceptually cool but makes you miss out on the value of post production (even though I see my live as jazz music, I make scales to guide my free flow, it was easier when we had our sound system to tell people who didn’t like it that they could actually buy speakers and start their own sound system… we were young lol)

Anyway I might need a sound card to expand on my use of the computer, for now I use only Reason to create instruments and I play them directly in the looper)

Hell I don’t know myself where this is taking me anyway, we’ll see !

I’ll post pics of my set when I manage to get everything right 🙂

oops, I didn’t realise Korg also made digital recorders as well as keyboards (I come from a broadcast electronics background, where though its not uncommon to find Studer or Tascam recording kit around which is also used in music production Korg is less common in a radio studio or TV sound area.). That is a decent piece of kit and should be perfect for what you want it to do..

yeah I did find a lot of Tascam on the ebay, at first I was looking for old generation recorders (I’m lotek !), but as I went along I stumbled upon the D888, and well considering that 90% of my toys are Korg it was difficult to resist 🙂

The only downside is that there is only one IN per fader, problem I solved with that.

(and they’re really cool when you’re fiddling with the electribes’ audio ins)

I’m not entirely sure, probably mental tekno or something ?
I used to play way more aggressive and fast, 200/220bpm, but once I got the RC50 (thanks dubfx for showing me this awesome toy, mc xander does cool stuff too), I realized that I needed to slow down since I’m not the best keyboard player there is ^^
I’m influenced by people like Brian Eno, Yann Tiersen, M83 lately, and tekno wise by people like Mempamal MEM PAMAL – Thessaloniki – meme pas mal – YouTube or Suburbass, two different styles of french tek.

If you think of a name I’m interested 😉
