Oh, just tried picking one up the wrong way round when I was 3. Never mind, it’s water under the bridge.
My right thumb won’t oppose properly. Which technically makes me only half human. Like I said, compensation is I do neat tricks with a soldering iron and can work easily with hot materials. Anyway, plenty of people who CAN spin vinyl.
Scuse me, I’ve got somebody else’s sound system to put back together. 😉
May 24, 2012 at 1:02 pm #1253548I did the same (albeit with less permanent damage) well into my 20s and already being a trained and experienced engineer who should know better, as the result of LSD, amfetamines and sleep deprivation so appreciate how unpleasant this can be – and worse at an early age when it results in permanent injuries.
This was with a 90s era soldering iron – I too am also old enough to remember what the 70s ones were like (indeed the one I used as a boy eventually lost its protective earth, went live to 230V and expired with a spectacular bang – luckily the plug top fuse did its job and is why I am still here).
This hopefully would not prevent you using a modern controller (and many genres are no longer released on vinyl anyway). In fact with mine (which I selected as i was a bit bigger than others) using the thumb usually results in the wrong button being pressed and the active deck being put off etc…

May 26, 2012 at 12:27 pm #1253553It’s shame I don’t DJ anymore, or I’d well be up for this. Anything for producers?
