I’m not sure of the deal with track licencing for cds and stuff but i know it’s complicated withn you paying a percentange of your earnings or a flat rate fee to licence a track for a given amount of time…

But having said that downloading tracks off the internet breaches copyright and small scale copying is impossible to detact or stop. 😉

To play music in public your suppose to have a PPL (public performance licence) which costs about £100 a year. All clubs, bars and professional djs have them (yes this really is a licence to mix!) The money from this goes to the musics producers so it keeps them from complains about licence and copyright issues.

Thats about all i know and i doubt it’s been any use to you at all 😀

This might be of help to you Topaz

          http://www.patent.gov.uk/copy/index.htm

Copyright law can be very complex and difficult to understand (probably why I failed it at college) But I am sure if you cannot find your answer here then sum1 in the patent office would be glad to help you with your question in a more simple and less legalese way.

You can contact them on 0845 9 500 505 (Local Rate Phone) or e-mail
          enquiries@patent.gov.uk

Things are a bit more complicated with the UK implementation of the European Copyright Directive (you can see more about that on the site as well.

Sorry I can’t help you any more than this but I do hope it is of some help.

Sorry I have found something else just as I pushed the submit button, you can get more specific copyright information from a Teresa Arnesen on 020 7596 6513 or copyright@patent.gov.uk might be quiker to go direct to her than to trawl thru the site, hope this is of sum help.
