Having performed to crowds stretching from the USA to Wales, Hughie Mac will have your speakers breaking out into a jive with his latest album of bassy gems, ‘Hughie Mac Sings Classic Irish and Classic Irish American Songs’. Hughie breathes new life into classic anthems throughout the album, rejuvenating staples of classic Irish and Irish American music, with his unique Philly bop. Despite only beginning his music career four years ago, the Philadelphia-based former teacher has made up for lost time, by delivering the accomplished vocal performances usually expected from veteran musicians on his latest 16-track project. Influences ranging from Mo-zart, to Michael Buble, through Frank Sinatra were channelled by Hughie in the crea-tion of his unique, ostentatious sound.
Hughie’s latest album transports listeners on an enthralling voyage of discovery through a full range of Irish medleys, from buoyant tracks such as McNamara’s Band, to slower jams such as Danny Boy. Whatever the beat, whatever your preferred style of dance, Hughie has you covered with this series of songs that anyone can trip the light fantastic to.
Hughie drew on his Irish heritage to make the album, as he wanted his music to re-flect a culture so close to his heart. Also, quite frankly, recording an album is one of the most time consuming tasks to which a person can dedicate themselves, and therefore Hughie wanted to make the experience as enjoyable as possible, by basing his artistic process on reinterpretation of and reminiscence over his favourite tunes. Having grown up listening to show tunes, Hughie has an excellent ear for jigs which will get the entire dancefloor shaking, and proves it on his latest album.
