So I’m Rob. You probably guessed that. I’ve been listening to electronic music for ever, back when it was definitely not as cool lol. I’m going to my first festival in November. EDC Orlando. I’m super stoked. My brother went to nocturnal wonderland this year and after seeing how much fun he had I decided it’s my time to go too. Anyways, I’m wanting to get more in to the community and hopefully make some cool friends. 🙂

        1. Stay Hydrated. ( Bring bottled water because you get ripped off if you don’t).
        2. Have money for a hotel/motel/holiday inn. (No comment on brining several girls for an afterparty once). Happend in EDC also, so if you’re not into guys then good luck (or if you are…whatever….I’m just basing what I know).
        3. Try to FREQUENCY NETWORK with walkie talkies! In OVERTLY HUGE EVENTS you will get lost. Meetups on drugs is a SERIOUS HASSLE. Just ask people in line…..”who has a walkie talkie….what frequency….etc. etc”. You get to meet more people that way. Stay away from the ones that don’t share frequencies (really bad people…TRUST ME…..usually its because they cant handle their drugs…..even WEED…its funny).
        4. If youre into pills have a testing kit, see what type of crap is in there. Never mix pills with alcohol……ITS A POISON MIXTURE!
        5. Security guards are really fucking cool man, try to be freindly to them.
        6. Sometimes you get the occasional naked girl thats all into herself at a party, most likely away from her friends or something and just literally stuffed with drugs in her system. Be a pal and lookout for her. Be the body guard if anything, you know…sometimes people take advantage and thats not cool. I usually just leave and tell whoever she hooks up with to look after her and that she agrees to the whole situation….even with a nod of the head or something (It’s those dam famous DJ’S outside of the promoters personal choice I TELL YOU! Druggies that party around the world don’t fuck around when promoters get the correct dj’s).
        7. Bring something with nutrients, if you dance like crazy…..like a healthbar with vitamins or something. Check a local pharmacy, see what they have. Because if you don’t….. hours and hours of dancing or drugs will start draining your stored energy in your body, and if that starts running out, it justs eats away at your muscles and yourself. Learn from drugs and take care of your body!
        8. Have FRIGGIN FUN MAN! I don’t enjoy huge crowds (regardless). An a schedule helps. Also ask around what people are into, with whatever’s in their system. If people can’t stop talking about it….its usually OFF THE WALL FUN!

ALSO….I need to bring this up again…..DJ’S! Pay attention because some of the headliners were actually started by that party event organizers! That means that the Dj that’s headlining was actually molded by that company: 1. to save money. 2. to have more of a control on what people get into. …………..If you think about it, you’re basically getting ripped off because some of them would rather pay less for the dj. “more money in their pocket”. I personally do my research with the dj’s…….I wouldn’t pay $150.00 for a DJ that used to be a ROADIE STAGE HELPER who’s still BALLS OUT DEDICATED. I paid top dollar for a goddam party…..i better get GODDAM TOP DJ’S that people are going NUTS FOR all over the world. Supporting an unknown (who’s only dedicated to selfish people) is a RIPOFF……all your doing is supporting a promotion for GLOBAL BOOKING CANDIDATE (backed secretly by another promoter, for strategical promotions?!)……that is just F**KIN’ GROSS MAN!

People have different experiences with the whole thing. I’m just sharing mine. Keep in mind that you have a “choice” in whatever is happening and you’ll be ok.

trying to “hide” these frequencies is very silly anyway as most of the portable sets which do not require a license from FCC / Industrie Canada (or the national equivalent wherever the event is happening) use clear analogue speech (or very basic scramblers which anyone can easily defeat).

if these folk are also operating illegally out of band (which may seem tempting when Chinese equipment that can communicate with anything from ships to aircrafts is surprisingly cheap) that is even more silly as they are attracting more attention to themselves; especially if they don’t know 100% what they are doing or what the local frequency allocations are – as they are much more likely to accidentally cut across the comms of the event organisers, end up upsetting the sound engineers by transmitting across radio microphones or worse, even interfere with the public safety organisations often present at these events.

BTW for the USA all the frequencies the more commonly found handhelds are normally set to are in the link below (your own radio set may or may not not have a frequency display).

I am based in Europe where we have similar radio equipment but it uses different frequencies (446 MHz without a license) so am not 100% sure which ones are more prevalent at EDM events but suspect it would be the FRS ones as the lower permitted power means the sets are more likely to use “normal” batteries/accus. it would also be unusual for an open repeater with talkthrough active for public use to be on site unless its something like Burning Man or a festival aimed predominantly at techies/hackers.

TBH in smaller European countries they rarely use a repeater even for the event organisers comms as it requires more effort and licensing to deploy one and the sites aren’t usually large enough to warrant their use.

Hey Rob, tell us how the party went, yeah? I remember my friend who dj’s House Clubs in Los Angeles invited me to go out there with him. It was for the Winter Music Conference……it was around 2001 though, I declined. Musicians frequent that area leisurely so anything music related gets an intimate reaction. Winter Music Conference is usually the only big and important event that happens in that area. You should do research on WMC, maybe they have some dope clubs and events still happening in that area. Might as well have fun all the way in Florida ( you might bump into your favorite dj’s/musicians, just hanging out….thats why….*hint hint…hahahah).
