I’m english but live in france. i started going to free parties 2 years ago here and they really are something special. it’s an escape from reality, from society, where you can go and talk profoundly with close mates or people you’ve just met whilst watching the sun rise (and the following sun set if you’re really into the convorsation :p) and listening to the sound echoing around you.. sure, drugs are the norm, but everyone is so helpful and open minded. ive never been to a less violent place in my life. contrary to what drugs are supposed to do to people, I feel the safest i ever feel at free parties. I leave my car open all night, i’ll share my things with people and they’ll share with me. i love the the entire philosophy of it…we make our own rules and rely on solidarity. all of this i’ve never ever felt in a night club in a town, where fights, theft and general dick heads are common place.
anyway! the reason i’m saying all this is because this is MY experience of french free parties. I’m moving back to the UK soon and I want to know what they’re like there, if they are the same and if they are common. (and how to find them!)
any replies would be appreciated!
thanks 🙂May 26, 2010 at 10:54 pm #1226516@Revel 386277 wrote:

mmmmmmmmm….
I really think it depends where you end up in the UK
my experience deosnt sound as possitive but is still possitive compaired to others :bounce_fl:bounce_fl
years and years ago the free parties i went to usually were squatted buildings and they were cool, I’ve not done much of ‘lundun, lundun’ other than the outdoors ones – my experience has been great – but others hasnt been so and the squat parties – depends on who you listen to again and where you go- some friends have great stories others not so
my trip back into parties was from a warehouse party and it was great but salford in manchester has a dodgey name – but mine and my friends experiences wasnt so
and more recently my experience has been more so in the midlands – most are die hard followers of the local sound system / s and still at it in their 40s and a lovley lovely crowd, watching sunrises and the new day arising
but I am aware I am lucky and not had hiddeous experiences in inner city lundun in nasty smelly places – but this is because i am generally on my own and wont go anywhere I think may be unsafe
stick around here – make friends and you’ll find what you want :group_hug:group_hug:group_hug

May 27, 2010 at 8:38 am #1226519welcome to PV 🙂 Some party’s out in the countryside where everyone knows each other can be like that although tend to be small. Party’s in city’s can be more problematic but then that’s city’s for you.
May 27, 2010 at 8:52 am #1226517Welcome to PV, mate. I think you can srill find partys like that here but they tend to be the smaller ones or out in the middle of nowhere.
warehouse partys and inner city partys tend to have more attitude i reckon. but depends on the crews and stuff tooMay 27, 2010 at 11:02 am #1226518welcome to partyvibe.. what your speaking of sounds like the ‘golden days’ of parties in the UK…
you still get these fluffy parties fairly often up north from what i hear, and then theres some local soundsystems dotted over the rest of the country with a dedicated following of fluffy ravers…
it can get a bit darker at the squats of london etc as the others have said. some crews have a good name some have a bad name (such as venom)
May 27, 2010 at 11:08 am #1226514one important difference (other than the larger size of France which is of course a factor in tolerance) is that some council areas seem to actually permit a rave of < 500 people to occur provided people comply with basic health and safety rules… its like the UK's TENS license but without the paperwork! So more small raves happen in France. Not all areas allow them though..
