I have made some changes to one of my june acid techno projects. I still can’t get the bass sounding right. the drum itsself is live +6db and I know that isn’t good. The thing is when I turn the EQ or compression down it looses its ommff. I really don’t know what to do. The rest of the track is really unfinished and un polished. I really like this one . I know I have been trying to make allot of different studies, instead of trying to make full tunes as the museum of techno told me, but I am hoping to get this one done and dusted.

If you could please download the wav file to get a better ear for what i’m talking about. SC seems to make the bass sound crap from time to time.

Just downloaded it – I can hear what you mean and I know the sort of bass you want but I think that it may be difficult to get this without either loudspeakers or cans which can provide the bass response you want. Maybe if you put a small amount of reverb/delay on it (not too much) that will fatten up the sound.

BTW for more bass on monitor speakers I use two of them cheap “PA” cabs sold at CP set up in “Norfolk kiddie rig” style, they do the job…

Not sure where the compressor is or on what instruments but it does seem to have taken a big bite out of the dynamic range of the whole track…

Also is there any way you can set your DAW to 48 KHz sample rate and 24 bits (or more) per channel? Although 44k/16 bits is most common for distribution and broadcast if you can get more in production its worth doing. Even my mixes are recorded in analogue at 48 KHz 24 bit (though the source material is usually 16 bit) as the storage space isn’t loads more and it seems to sound just slightly better.

        more about sample rates here…

Yeah, I use a pretty good pair of cans so I get good ranges of bass and all the rest. Cheers for the link matie. Oh yeah I started listening to your new mix in bed last night. I Remember you saying you have been buying trance again
