Nine people have been killed during Thursday’s crackdown on anti-government protesters in Burma’s main city of Rangoon, state television says. The dead included eight protesters and a Japanese man, identified as a video journalist working for APF News – with 11 demonstrators and 31 soldiers hurt.

The deaths came on the 10th day of protests, led by Buddhist monks.

            :hopeless:

good choice, i did it for years but in the end changed tactics and opted for actively helping instead.

Have to admit it took me long time to reach the point where i could, so no judgment going on just am happier now than i was then

life is shitty but there is loads of good stuff going on too, its handy to remember that sometimes  especially when there’s shit like this going on (which there is all the time if you just look)

unfortunately its not uncommon since ancient times and its only because of internet/telecoms as well as increasing multiculturalism we get to know about what is happening in this part of the world..

from the Wikipedia entry on shaolin temple monks..

These exercises (wuqinxi, literally “five pure rivers”) were later adapted into a combat discipline when, as the temple grew, it became subject to attacks from brigands against whom the monks needed to protect themselves. [2]

Burma has always had it’s troubles. Every day I hear about something going on over the border.

But seeing this made me sick and let me tell you the Thai poeple are not happy about it at all.

Was watchin the news this morning and apperntly its probably more like 100 killed. Its the state t.v which has said it was only 9. Im not sure what our governmet could do, but im sure they should be doing more than just asking thier governmet to stop killing people.

Burma’s been in shit for 16 years, its just that the western press have descided that teh current round of suppression is news worthy, so everyone’s worried about it. crazy that all those people have been living in a country run by the military for so long. its only because of the tireless efforts of people like Aung San Suu Kyi that we know anything at all about the regime.

the only group who can really do anythign decent about it is the UN, but china is not up for supporting them. and to to be honest sanctions are only gonna hit the common people rather than the ruling class, so is pointless. i cant see how teh international community can wrest power away from the military junta and restore democracy.

full respect to the monks taking up the cause of the common man, though. i doubt our anglican preists and bishops would do the same for us!
