I am looking for something to generate synth style sounds, produce drumbeats, good with sampling and mixing, the whole 9 yards really. Anyone know of a magical software bundle/suite whatever that can hook me up?

Yes I used to have a pretty cool VST pack, gimmie sec to look it up.

Novation Vstation is still a very popular one for all synths. I have it if you want a errhem “extended demo”

Grr I can’t find em but anyway you should give sylenth a go or maybe padshop or I am using alchemy for granular synths. DB glitch is a must and it’s free along with all the vst FX you see on this page 5 Awesome Free VST Plugins « PsyTuts | PsyTrance Tutorials, Interviews, News and Reviews

With drums you are better off just making loops up on the worktop. You don’t need a drum machine for making 4/4

FL Studio. Download the demo (you can use it as much as you want you just can’t save/open your projects) :).

Then watch some psytrance fl studio tutorials on youtube 😛 that should get you going!

Not sure there’s any specific software for just psy or trance … normally a DAW (digital audio workstation) will be used for every style imaginable. It’s all what sounds you use and how you put them together that makes the style. Some synths/effects will however have more of the right sound for psy then others. I think most of really good psytrance is made predominantly on hardware though. This doesn’t mean to say you can’t make some bloody good psy on just software.

I personally use cubase 6.5 to make music (+a shit ton of vst instruments/effects) … this ranges from psy to drum and bass … from chillout to hardcore.

Another program you might want to consider is Ableton. Cubase and Ableton are pretty much the top two contenders for making any kind of music.

not specifically for any genre, but you get quite good value with ‘komplete’ packages… you get reaktor with it also which is a massive host program with many instruments where you can create your own synths Komplete : Bundles : Komplete 9 | Products

those packages others have suggested will help you, but you already have the equipment to make the magic.

On either side of your head two devices known as ears, and inside it is a brain. it is with a combination of these you will make the magical sounds.

Also if you can scrape together the money get decent soundcard (I’d suggest the Focusrite ones or similar but not sure if you can get them easily in your country, they would have to be imported from UK) and good studio monitor amp / loudspeakers. At the very least if you can’t afford new stuff search out a 1980s/1990s era Japanese amplifier and some second hand loudspeakers that have not have been ragged by previous owner, and perhaps a decent pair of cans (headphones) if you don’t have a “den” type place (like all American dudes we see on our telly seem to have) where you can make noise all night long.
