agreed, and ironically its actually what stops humankind actually self-destructing – too much hedonism will of course eventually kill people, but a overly oppressive government without any respite or positive things will drive people to mental illness and suicide!
Even Singapore which is a very controlled nation has very good food, guaranteed council housing for all, a fair few state/govt benefits, and a certain amount of nightlife, it also has a problem with illegal immigration so it can’t be that bad a place to live in!
