According to neo-classical economics, it is just the income from which economic agents derive utility and there is no utility associated with the ‘process’ (i.e. work environment).

Taking this factor into account, maybe it’s better for some people to get out of the rat race and focus on being in a stimulating quality work environment (as opposed to more materialistic pursuits).
