Theyre using ketamine? O.o that is definatelly new to me, its an anesthetic and has to be injected as it is a liquid (im a vet nurse, we use it in surgeries) its a little silly to use something that is going to make you drowsy (its fast acting too)… i dont get it

though on a serious note, i agree with USE, this sort of publicity is not something raves need… then again, the only way to look past a media coverage like this, is if you have experienced what the event is really about or can be bothered finding out the other side of the story.

yay! thanks Lighting, honestly this is quite a relief. Poi and staff are awsome to play around with, and the fact that its not competative makes it all the better.
funny cat, i know the hitting on the head stage sucks, im not all that good myself but if you dont get the chance to really get together with anyone, i found a site for the first time i looked poi up (you probably know it but just in case) http://www.homeofpoi.com/ Its got online lessons, the next best thing if you dont have someone to show you the moves, it still takes ages to learn though 😀

hmm, just to butt in a little to this topic (with all due respect) i wouldnt call myself a proper juggler but i started playing around with poi a while back. the only thing is i have to teach myself so its pretty slow going when time does permit
the martial art i do also incorporates staff swinging so that will probably help
though i do have a serious question, several of my friends have said starting to do this at age 17/18 is too late in life… theyre not right ofcourse, but did anyone have problems with this if they started when they were older?
              just curious
otherwise these little “toys” are awsome, and very unique ive found in each design
ah and i havent read through the whole thread so smack me if ive repeated someone else has said :p

ah and just remembered, MKP if you want to learn some tricks http://www.motsplace.com has some pretty good vids and tutorials for poi and staffs, some nice tricks, like windmills and so on

                  bwaha! Australians are crazy 😉
The rave on the nuclear power plant site sounds familiar, ill have to look it up and see if they ever ended up putting a power plant on that area.
We have a few bush raves a year that i know of, they are usually closer to the end of the year (is novemeber) since its summer for us at that time.
Ah and we are very lucky down here, the cops are not allowed to use brutal force to break up gatherings unless they absolutely have to. Even then they have strict limits on what they can do. One slip up by authorities here and they are on trial as quick as any criminal… very lucky

colour coding is quite a good idea, i dont know australian shipping laws however there are strict rules on quarantine, so i assume there would be stric laws on what lethal chemicals they add into packaging. Australian wildlife is protected quite well in most areas. the only problem then is, the pretty colours make young children all the more curious
i didnt know you could make solvents out of them though, thats something to try out of the ones i currently have saved up 😀

And they used to say that IT is the industry that will never leave people jobless, since it is growing in leaps and bounds……. liars!

I hope that man finally got some work 🙁

i came up with this name years ago, wanted to make a login name that just said “mash” then didnt notice that i wasnt in the actual login typed in my password which had “vie” at the end, voila, Mashvie and since noone seems to use it, it comes in pretty useful 😀

if the AU scene is anything like the UK scene (and I would guess its influenced a lot by what goes on in Britain) the outdoor ones definitely usually are the safest. In any city anywhere in the world there is a culture where some youth find violence seductive and will try and bring it to even the best run city events…. OTOH few make the effort to travel miles into the countryside to cause any bother…

Yup, the music is the thing that is most influenced by British goings on. I think the majority of trance that you see on sale, for example, comes from the well known club “Ministry of Sound”, everything from the anthems published to hard NRG. Its not too bad, but usually if you want to get certain pieces of music yo have to buy the cd’s produced by the DJ’s themselves.
And its really good to hear that there are at least some events that are mostly stupidit-free, even if it is down in the country side, its really worth going to 🙂

yep – I remember them (didn’t realise they were still about!) when they first came out in the 1980s there was an outcry from our conservative newspapers and they tried to get them banned 🙂

Bwaahahaha! Those newspapers think they have all the power, but dont under-estimate the power of the childrens’ muppets!
I remember them i think, it was a while back but they were on down here for a year or two, dont know about now though

Thanks for the welcomes 🙂 Means a lot that there are people who you can talk to!

I live in Melbourne (australia) in the eastern suburbs, about 20 minutes from the central city district, so its pretty good access.
Which gives me a thought, it’d be great to get to know anyone who lives around the same area.

City raves is actually the usual thing that we have down here and in most case its more of a nightclub/rave put together. I do agree that these can be dangerous, there have been stabbings and fights in some of the clubs (thus i suppose the rep they get) What USE said about “seeming cool” also goes into it i think, if you have that sort of attitude and meet someone else with one, it could result in a messy situation. What so inspired me about raving is the fact that the people there are there to dance and have a blast rather than be on show and judge everyone who appears in their sight, unlike clubs. Still though, you see so many people who go in there and act like everyone is watching them.

It would be great to go to an outdoor rave, we have some in the bush and street raves as well, problem is getting the time with school and work  putting those sort of events on sounds like fun too 😀
Ah and i would love to have an imput into this community, ill try to say things which i mean 😉
