this might amuse you but I don’t know any of the correct South Asian names for a lot of curries as my family use other names for the same thing, also there are SE Asian curries which in England you normally get at a “chinese” restaurant rather than an Indian. the menus these days are suitably marked with warnings as some people don’t expect them to be as hot as they are!
this is one of them.
http://rasamalaysia.com/recipe-malaysian-curry-chicken/
they had it at one of the local chinese buffets (until Borders and Immigration turned them over!)
My mum and aunts can go into any Asian shop between Reading and Southall and get all the ingredients, despite not speaking a word of Urdu or Punjabi and all the stuff being in those languages. They would just speak to the woman there, I think it is some telepathic link between Asian mothers :laugh_at:
This meant I could never buy booze or fags when the mother of the family was in a corner shop as I’d only get a disapproving look and get dobbed in instead. What you did was speak to the lad your age or slightly older when he was in the shop, they’d often take pity on you (as they were getting the same grief) and you’d get discounts and extras…

fucking lush! one of the best I have had, hot and spicey but with a cooling veg korma. Had it for breakfast to finish it off, then had a massive pub lunch and 5 pints today and now I feel like I need to die. Just for a bit.

do you make curry a lot? I find you need sooo many different ingredients it can be a bit expensive, but I guess if you cook it a lot then it would be better value.

only really when im feeling extravagant.. i spent about a tenner on ingredients last night for two people.. although there was leftover enough for a smaller meal tomorrow
more expensive than grabbing a pizza from iceland for a quid 😛

Sounds like your a better cook than me!
I do quite like iceland pizza with extra red pepper and a touch more cheese, perhaps some leftover chicken. Sainsburys pizzas are a ripoff. grrrr lol

iceland is rediculously cheap.. its so cheap to eat shit.. no surprise a lot of poor families have obesity problems

I know exactly what you mean, its akin to a poor quality takeaway, yet I cant help but think that some people mistake it for food and feed the family on it daily. Sure there are worse things you can do, but still, sad times.
June 9, 2010 at 11:43 am #1226756I’ve made a few curries b4 .. quite hard to make and take up a bit of time from scratch (even toasting the spices ect)… but man when you do it properly it’s worth it for a treat! (fuck doing it every day tho – traditional asian women are hardcore!)
June 9, 2010 at 4:00 pm #1226754I can make a pretty decent curry imo. I’d love to be able to make an authentic Indian Jalfrezi.
We got an Indian family living opposite and they own a restaurant in town. Might ask them to teach me how to make one.
They owe me a favour, seeing as a couple years ago I saved one of their kids from being run over!
June 9, 2010 at 9:37 pm #1226757because you have quick reactions and hit the break fast doesn’t entitle you to a curry imo!

You should try the chicargo town “takeaway” pizza’s (from supermarkets)
garenteed the best premade self cook pizza you can buy (other than the really expensive proper made fresh ones)

The dou actualy rises when you cook them and they have tomato stuffed crust!!!
