I’ve only ever brought stuff, never sold
have any of you guys sold big stuff – car / bike etc ?
I need to sell a scooter and ATM has advised me but any personal experience? as in would it be better to do it as a classified ad, or reserve price and get bids in your experience.
I’ve seen other people asking for a deposit and cash on collection so think thats what I’ll do but it seens a bit overwhelming for my little head this am.February 25, 2010 at 12:39 pm #1223622My dad sold a antique sowing machine for nearly a grand (wasn’t a perticulaly big sowing maching but the price made it big in our eyes) – don’t think he put a reserve on it .. but then he wasn’t expecting it to go for that much (i would deffo put a reserve on something worth more than a hunderad quid imo)

yeh, think what i’ll do – when I eventually get out of bed, is take photos down to a local shop and ask them what they’ll give me and use that as the reserve price..February 25, 2010 at 12:44 pm #1223623ahh wise thinking 🙂

i usually put a highish buy it now, and also bidding with a reserve price

ah! hadnt thought about this part! as hopefully it’ll go for quite a bit :love: maybe I’ll speak to the bike shop and then sell it via a specialised scooter magazine or summat instead for a fixed price, want to then put this money towards my van :bounce_fl

its an unusual 1950’s lambretta so I’m thinking maybe more specialist scooter related places will fair better, esp as it needs restoring too. I need to find out what its defo worth though if doing a classified as dont want to ask for too much but dont want to be taken for a mug

Dont think its that cheap though better advertising locally maybe unless its a bit special
February 25, 2010 at 3:13 pm #1223625well ebay is ok i brought my motorbike off there years ago and 1 car but they will charge you listsing fee plus a final value fee meaning a percentage of what it goes for then if they send payment bye paypal they take a cut so unless its worth alot of money i wouldnt bother really cos you can list on gumtree free and auto trader only cost about 10-15 quid to put up a vehicle and motorcycle news would be a good bet for a rare bike

February 27, 2010 at 6:59 pm #1223616There seems to be an ever growing trade in scooters and related bits on Ebay and nstuff still goes for silly prices. its an auction so you can either set a high reserve, pay the extra for to Ebay and hope it doesnt put people off or put on a low reserve and hope for the best. We seel loads of stuff on Ebay from computers to motorbikes to bits of old tat !!
I always watch a few items of the same type first to gauge interest.
have a look at these TG they are much the same as what you have :-
