I’ve just heard from a friend (so correct me if i’m wrong) that the kidney tv show was a hoax.

Just done to publicise the transplant situation.

Now my view point is ‘bloody hell, a bit savage but a master stroke’ but my mates a bit more ‘what about all the pain its caused people’

      What do you guys think?

Yeah it was hoax, apparently they all knew and the “donor” was in fact an actor….

Suppose it made people aware of the kindney transplant issues, but maybe it was the wrong way of going about it.

the wider damage is to the broadcasters reputation – if they will fake one story, what else would they fake? who can trust their news broadcasts or any “semi serious” broadcast now?

The worst part of all this spin and media manipulation IMO is that now people think any form of positive reporting or thinking is just spin and are cynical about everything..

Exactly my point, they’ve done more to highlight the appalling state of the transplant situation than anything else I’ve heard of.

I know a fine ethical line has been thoroughly smudged and trampled on but I can’t think of any other way such vast amounts of publicity could have been gained, so I’m still thinking dodgy but genius.

The real proof will be in how many more people sign up as donors.

I am, tho I have my doubts as too how healthy my bits are after all the abuse they’ve had. Anyone else?

I can’t be a donor, neither of blood or body parts..

But I would if I could..

                ( or I hope I would )

the flipside of this is that should the Netherlands ever shift politically more to the right (and it has already done so in recent times) by sparking this debate it could also mean other people actively consider “selective organ donation”

Maybe not via reality TV shows but via market-based solutions (for instance organs being sold to help provide for the bereaved family) or people saying “I will only donate to people with whose lifestyles/race/culture/religion I agree with”.

Bear in mind this is already common practice in many countries where healthcare is provided by the market alone..
