      1. todays first top news headline is all about loads of football hooligans being busted in dawn raids because they trashed a trainload of rival fans just like “back in the day” (and I suspect half the blokes who got nicked were older than me lol)

      2. the next headline is that Boy George is playing a gig in town..

          Now this..

          Quote:
POLICE today revealed three teenagers have been arrested after officers raided a Hadleigh house and discovered a bucket full of car badges.

reminds me of the sort of thing that happened when I was in high school in the 80s! (think Beastie Boys etc…)

I’ve been intrigued by this though – and on further investigation its not so much that Ipswich is actually “behind the times” – it went through the 90s just like any other large growing urban area – but more like a lot of the 90s culture, particularly the tolerated/legal rave scene has been “airbrushed from history” or suppressed due to the backlash after the Leah Betts/”Essex Boys” incident, and trouble at Hollywoods / Kartouche / Zest..

This coupled with the lack of investment in the shops (as people are generally lower earners than SE England) is what makes the area look like you are “still in 1987/1988″……. not sure what to make of it myself.

In some ways I think its actually OK as its as if I’m getting a third go at my youth but the chance not to make so many mistakes – but the “disappearance” of the underground dance scene in an entire town is a bit unnerving – I regularly meet younger people who just aren’t interested in it and older people who say “well we gave it a chance but there was too much “trouble due to drugs”

I shouldn’t mock too much as the lads are actually supporting a really good cause by doing it but this was in the papers this week..

(fair play to them TBH, didn’t think they were still in the music business!)

IPSWICH’S Somebody’s Daughter campaign received a boost today when top band The Proclaimers donated signed merchandise to the cause.
