respect to anyone who works in the frontline of the NHS(or GIG for the Welsh 😉 ) – all the ambulance drivers, control room staff, paramedics, emergency dept nurses and doctors, GP’s, care assistants – the support staff who look after the IT, comms and electronic maintenance – and especially those of you who are students learning in teaching hospitals around the UK.
this weekend I sustained some nasty injuries and had to attend the Emergency Department of a London hospital at the weekend (taken there by Ambulance!).
Despite the fact the staff there were dealing with at least 3 other emergency cases, I was seen to very promptly and efficiently – I thought it was a lot longer but I was only there for an hour! I didn’t even realise I was in a teaching hospital until I looked up the trust details on the net today..
so many people whinge about the NHS, and yes mistakes are made at management level or by politicians trying to save money but TBH the very fact it exists at all (many countries, even other European nes do not have a health service like this) is one of the best things about modern life in the United Kingdom…

after being in bristol for a year, i have no postive experiences of the NHS to report.
But it is, i my opinion, one of the things that make britain great (if, indeed it is 😉 )

one of them reads
“I mean, how difficult can it be to clean a hospital?”
which, to me, is a-political and simply derrogatory of the thousands of hard working health service staff. see
“I mean, how difficult can it be to further alienate the electorate?”

this seems to be a bit of a harsh year for me as far as health is concerned, this time it was allergic reactions that have yet again brought me to the Emergency Department…
the wait was a bit longer this time but theres a lot more old people in the Reading area who seemed to have all sorts of nasty things wrong with them and young kids with injuries so thats understandable….
got an all clear though and I’m better now -but once again the very fact that there were people there to check me out for a minimal cost (just the NI payments from my salary) is excellent IMO
and the NHS is an brilliant example of how multiculturalism is positive, there must have been staff from every corner of the world in there………

all the long hot days get people out doing all kinds of sports… in or on the water, climbing cliffs, on bikes, hiking out into the wilderness (what’s left of it).. all of which can be good for your health until something goes wrong… not to mention creepy, slithery or wing-ed things that want to taste your blood
in the south-west the powers that be have proposed privatising the coast guard.. part of military budget cuts.. the air ambulance is already run on charitable donations, A&E departments have disappeared from smaller hospitals around here
so if you’re down this way this year, try not to fall off a cliff, out of a boat, under a bit of farm machinery or out of a tree :toxic:
that’s goes for party heads, not just holiday-makers :alcoholic

July 19, 2005 at 11:42 am #1063973Glad to hear you are recovering. I haven’t had great experiences with the NHS and have often considered going private but I don’t have the funds.
But then i’ve never had a life threatening problem that requires immediate attention.
