Not sure what combination of keys I pressed on IE (was trying to do something else when replying to a post) but this window came up from “alexa” and has all sorts of info about partyvibe on it (including the address and phone number of a lady called Joanna Walsh, presumably from the ICANN registry), all our related links, a traffic graph and most bizarrely a sponsored link [broken] to a Catholic dating agency! ๐
Interesting, but also an eye opener as to just how much info is captured about our site and, how everything you put on the net is filed away somewhere…
January 5, 2005 at 3:58 pm #1063819Jo used to run the site when it was first founded but hasn’t been involved for years. Alexa’s a tool bar utility which must have installed on your computer at some stage that bases it’s popularity rankings on browsing stats it collects from the people who install it, meaning you… ๐
January 5, 2005 at 4:19 pm #1063820was a bit surprised as at work both the feed I use here and PC software installs are filtered/monitored – spyware is swiftly removed as well!
I’ve worked out what i’ve done now – must have pressed shortcut key for “show related links” and thats where the window came from

basically micro$oft are working with them and have left a back-door in IE for alexa to gain info! not particularly sinister TBH given all the other indexing of the net that goes on but its never been publicised by M$ that they are doing this..
still can’t fathom out why there was a catholic dating agency on the sponsored links (usually related to the search criteria) ๐
January 5, 2005 at 10:49 pm #1063821back home and the related links on this machine come up from Google (a bit better IMO ๐ ) rather than alexa but I didn’t change any settings or anything like that
Googles 20 sites related to partyvibe contain IFJ, the Advisory services for squatters, the BBC radio 1 dance blue room, fair enough I suppose but there’s also a site selling lingerie and the FAQs from comp.lang.c ๐
