€5 a month, you train an African giant rat to find UXO (mines and left over explosive) in war-zones so people can use the land again.

I think they should use these here as well to search trains etc. That way terrorists would not win; and the BTP anti terrorist cops could not get too arsey as when they have a big rat on the end of their leads it doesn’t do much for their hard man image.

stupid question but i have to ask:what happens to the rat?are they too small to set off a land mine?

yep – way too small. About 1.5 kilos compared to 20-30 kilos for a dog or 60-90 kilos for your average soldier.

I wouldn’t be plugging this if I thought the animals would come to any real danger; and the people training them couldn’t afford to invest time and money in creatures that were getting blown up all the time!
