      Hello once again ~~~~ 😉

This springtime around April or May I’m planning another trip across the Highline. The Highline is the northernmost rail line in the Lower-48 and is owned and operated by BNSF. (Burlington Northern & Santa Fe Railway).

The route traverses through Glacier National Park in Montana as well as travels through the top two longest tunnels in North America, (the Flathead Tunnel and the Cascade Tunnel). The Flatehead Tunnel is 6.8 miles long and the Cascade Tunnel is 7.8 miles in length.

We’ll be hopping off in several nice locations to water-up and gear up with food along the way and my favorite location along this route is Whitefish, Montana. What a glorious township! Simply beautiful from Cutbank, Montana all the way to the Pacific Ocean at Everette, Washington.

From here we can catch a city bus into Seattle and see the sights of this great city. If anyone’s interested, all you’ll need is a sleeping bag, small backpack and a couple days worth of clothes to change into once the others get dirty.

We’ll be bathing in streams and lakes and Sandpoint, Idaho is yet another spectacular town! I have a couple of videos of me riding the Highline last summer at my YouTube site. The video of the German pilot I have taking off from the lake in his float plane is in Sandpoint, Idaho as well as the train derailment video; they are both taken in Sandpoint to give you an idea of how beautiful of a location this is. My videos are titled to make it easier to know my locations. I also have a video of me as I travel through the entire length of the Flathead Tunnel! I believe it’s titled “Entering the Flathead Tunnel itself”.

Just message me or reply if you’re interested.

Here’s the video of me traversing the 6.8 mile long Flathead Tunnel:

Mate if I lived in America I’d be with you. Sounds so cliched but kinda always wanted that “fuck the system” lifestyle where I have no responsibility except myself and freedom to do as and go wherever I please. Or I at least want a taste of it some time even if it turns out it’s not for me. Hearing about people like you and the stories my gf comes out with (she spent 16 years traveling the world labouring as you have done where and when she could) this has led to all sorts of madness. She even spent 18 month as a dominatrix in NZ. Insanity that sounds so appealing.

That’s the travelling part not being butt fucked my a leather clad woman with a 10 inch strap on lol.

If I wasn’t half way round the world I’d consider it, sounds like a fun thing to do.

Can I ask why you do it? Is it for the travel, or just for the experience?

I would be so on this if I could get to America. 🙂

sounds like an amazing journey 🙂

liked the tunnel video. i was lucky enough to get a ride on the front verandah of a brake van (U.S. “caboose”) being propelled through cowburn tunnel back before British Rail stopped letting people do such things. only a fraction over 2 miles long, but with nothing between me and the blackness and the water streaming from the roof. i’ve loved rail tunnels ever since.

do we have boxcars in the UK? I’m not even sure and they are doubtless called something else, or even some new “euro-term”…

we used to have box vans here even into the 1980s, gl. ford for instance used long 4wheeled ones where the whole side slid to allow forklifts to load and unload pallets. but I think most rail traffic these days goes in block trains of special purpose wagons, like the big bogie hoppers we saw in the video, or in containers on flat wagons.

Similar bogie hopper wagons are used here but our loading gauge is smaller and i think they’d be a bit cramped for riding. you would find it hard gettinga ride too i think as we don’t, by and large, have big marshalling yards any more either, most freight runs siding to siding. also with stations and populated areas every few miles, someone would be quite likely to notice you and get the train stopped unfortunately.

yep I expect it would trigger a full scale terrorist alert – sadly not without good reason in our country, not just from genuine bombers but idiots who think its a good idea to monkey about with the coal supplies to power stations because they disagree with the eco-impact. I try to be right-on and eco-friendly as much as possible but that doesn’t mean disrupting working systems which folk are dependent on to try and prove a point…

                            sigh….

Well guess we could still meet up here and bunk the train from london to brighton.

So shoey, have you got a laptop with you or just a smartphone. I only ask cos you seem to be having an easy time uploading images and making lots of posts with I find trickey on phones.
