i thought the certain amount of posts idea was the best.

difficult to implement if you cant be arsed to code it

edit: mind you i suppose the current way its done is by a subscriber field with a boolean value in it in the database.. i suppose it wouldnt be so hard to modify it as to take the posts value from the forum database… that would only apply if the system works in that way though

some forums do grant different access levels depending on the post count. However doing it here poses the risk people will post rubbish simply to get the downloads and then fuck off again once they’ve got what they wanted…

I’ve come to the conclusion the old system was best so I’ve reverted to it effective immediately. Registered members can download again with the only restriction being a daily allowance to prevent abuse…

          Enjoy!

What is the download limit for non subscribers?

I would say neither of the poll options … my mate just sugested hosting the downloads on a third party website … say mega upload or simila … then you would only have to pay your subscription to them .. and link from here to a direct download link form them … and it would slice your costs … alltho it would have slower download speeds .. it would still enable free downloads

After ten files have been downloaded is that it then, they can’t download any more ever?

Maybe you should limit non subscribers so they can have 10-15 free downloads and if they want any more they can subscribe.

                      Seems fair to me.

Thats quite generous, I would only allow 2/3 files or something.. I think that is more than a fair amount, 2/3 files are all you would need to have music to keep you entertained for an evening.

I can imagine that a lot of your bandwidth usage is coming from music downloads, can you see how much is from people who are not regular posters?

That’s really generous Dr. B. Will quite understand if you can’t sustain it longer term. For me PV is more than just the chat though, and although we no longer have the party news here which PV was formed around way-back, good non-commercial music is still something that we all have in common. Hurrah for Bunsen !
