April 5, 2007 at 9:13 am #1102384DSI is a good resource for legal events but I really don’t think its suitable for promoting anything unlicensed.
Their admins also appear to have a policy of full collaboration with the cops (just like myspace or bebo or any other such site) – I’m not dissing them for this though, there are good reasons for it as because of all the pics and the detailed info it gives of peoples movements they need to stop people being harrassed or stalked in real life (which is a risk on any social networking site, even here).
Also, DSI appears to be a commercial site funded by ads where staff are recruited at IT professionals through a competitive process and receive a salary.
There is clearly a lot of money pumped into that site and peoples careers depend on it, in an industry where good jobs are flying out to foreign countries every day.
If people feel their “dream jobs” are on the line because some muppet is using their site for an illegal purpose, most of them will jump as high as the cops tell them to.

Yeah I use it to find out whats on in Sheff, Leeds etc.. Also has great photos from the night as well! I always find muntered photos of myself on there..
My friends do a few nights in Sheff, such as Dirty Cheese at the Vine, and Clunge magazine party at Corporation so good for them to promote their night on DSI.April 5, 2007 at 11:54 am #1102385Angel wrote:I posted it because I hoped it might help somebody to find friends who could help them find other “events”:group_hug:group_hug
it is good for that – and a lot of my friends are also there, as well as a Partyvibe group.
but we have to work together, protect each other and the party scene –
I know for a fact that the admins of DSI and a lot of the promoters who use the site (some of whom I’ve met over the last year) don’t like too much discussion about blatant drug use nor of illegal parties, and the moderation is a bit harsher than on PartyVibe.
I can wholly understand this as DSI is run in a totally different way to here.
Each group/sub forum is often linked to a set of promoters and a venue and you can search by region (worldwide!) which is what makes it really handy for finding licensed events and other networking.
However, if someone says “yeah I went to ***** rave at ***** venue and I scored and took bare pills and the bouncers didn’t notice anything” its extremely easy for a cop to find the message, print it out and show it to the Licensing committee for that venue. Thats how venues get busted for drugs and closed down.
if someone puts a message about an illegal party on a legal events group, the feds put two and two together and make 300 – again a legal event can be subject to more surveillance because of this.
This applies to all rave forums though TBH, we always need to think how our message comes across even to “non-participants”. We may feel we have “free speech”, but it can be used to trap us as well.
April 5, 2007 at 11:58 am #1102391There was a good little festival in Lancashire last summer and its whereabouts are stated as ‘Secret’ on DSI. Noticed on the forum ppl getting irrate cos no one would tell them the whereabouts of this festival..
But yeah, agree with what u mean GL.. ppl need to know to keep things like this quiet…..
