When DJing in Ableton Live, there’s a lot of options what to do with the sample – to affect either tempo, pitch or both when you change BPM. This thing with pitch shifting comes from early samplers. I also own one, and when you feed it a sample, it is laid over the keyboard and thus even fast rhythm will sound slooooow on bass notes. And a phrase said in a normal register will sound as if it was a chipmunk who said it, when you hit a higher note. For DJ purposes changing tempo is more than enough, though, and that can be done on the most controllers… Digital allows to do more stuff, though – you can remix tracks live as well as remix and dj simultaneously. So if you use it right, you can make a party more fun for everyone! 😉
