I reckon A video projector is overkill. You could just use one of the old school overhead projectors and start playing with motorised optics (motorised prisms and mirrors) to get similar effects. The running costs of both are down to changing the bulb or other illumination device – can cost quite a bit of cash.

My worst ever gig – I believed a night club manager that he had a reflective screen suitable for a video projection. Actually what he had was a matt black screen suitable for soaking up LASER illumination… it didn’t reflect diddly squat from a projector, it was expecting a dirty great concentrated laser beam.

… that’s when I learned, you test EVERYTHING before you gig. Assuming other people have the right gear just makes it too easy for fuck-ups like that.
