We will soon be trying to push the partyvibe radio stream forward and boost interest/listeners.
To do this we need an animated or static banner that can be placed on websites and in post signatures.
So this is where you creative lot come in. Your mission (should you choose to accept it of course) is to design a banner that will capture the essence of partyvibe.
Things that you should possibly consider:
A mainly blue banner would fit in with the colour scheme of the site
We Stream 24/7
Free party orientated
Live sets!
Wide range of stylesGet cracking.
All efforts are well appreciated!!!

if h can tell us what what font the logo is in, and put up a sample of the background of the site as a plain bitmap, with another swatch of the yellow used in the type, that would be well useful.
ive knocked up this as a sketch, if the design is alright i’ll make a crisp geometric versh for proper. as my animation skills are in aftereffects, which makes movie files, not flash, theyre a bit useless for this. i can give all the bits to someone else to animate, or maybe convince my housemate to help, who nose..
also the text box should have different messages flashing up, but i think the shape is a bit shite….any suggestions?
June 8, 2005 at 6:58 am #1065867June 8, 2005 at 9:09 am #1065883That is wicked USE! Loving it already.
Been staring at the text box/shape for ages, and I agree that it doesn’t quite fit in with the rest of the image. But after 15 minutes of staring I still can’t think of anything else that would suit.
I have shown Ria and she likes it a lot too. She suggested maybe having no text box as such but the text should display in the same colour as the partyvibe logo. I’m not so sure myself as I think it will make it look a bit empty in the middle there.
June 8, 2005 at 9:40 am #1065884Hmm, i’ve had an idea but i’m not sure whether it is simple to do or not, as i’ve never really dabbled in animation.
How about get rid of the shape behind the text and have the text appear in a flash of white and partyvibe logo lavendar blue (kinda like sci-fi ships disappearing in hyperspeed 🙂 ) then disapate into nothing then have the next load of text appear in the same fashion and so on and so forth.
Is that cheesy? To me it kind of gives the feel of the text being broadcast so to speak.
Tricky to do? Can anyone else help out? Can your mate help USE? Anyone else got their own designs they want to put forward??
Thanks!

more like this?
June 8, 2005 at 7:33 pm #1065885Hmm, nah. Too hard to read and it doesn’t really stand out. I think maybe she meant the same colour as the partyvibe text, but not the same font.
White text is going to work the best I suppose, so as long as it fits in that space and cycles through the various messages in some sort of animation then I think it will be fine. Maybe leave the halo type thing you have going on there though, see what it looks like.
I’m no graphic designer though so i’ll leave things up to you to decide, I can only put forward vague ideas.
June 8, 2005 at 7:45 pm #1065871The overall banner is good – I’d keep the lower “partyvibe.com” bit in Erasure font, but change the fill gradient or make the outline lighter as the partyvibe.com text is being “buried” in the background (dark blue on dark blue bits are hard to see, I’ve checked it on two separate PCs here to ensure its not just the old CRT monitors I still use being a bit ropey).
Also I’d suggest swapping Erasure in the “live stream” text for a more solid font and in a lighter colour. Erasure is a heavily ornamented display font, which becomes hard to read below 24 point text and you lose all the features like the double outline as the text gets smaller.

yerp, it wuz a mission tryna get the type to look the same as partyvibe, i think a diff type might be better. i’ll have a play for a few days and come up with summat. if any other designers want to use my photoshop file to fuck with, i’ll send it to ya.
i could quite easily apply loads of graphic design bullshit rues to this, but it would be much better if everyone chipped in their two cents and added to the final thing, that would be the best way of representing partyvibe properly.
i started making a true geometric version of the above image, but it looses a lot of soul, so i dunno if i’ll finish it. im warming to my sketch atm. what dyall rec?
any more comments greatly appreciated, no such thing as too many cooks…

As for your sketch I love it. Apart from the text hurdle that we need to cross it’s ace!
June 8, 2005 at 8:01 pm #1065872i actually particularly like the mixture of the sketch and the quasi-70s font for the partyvibe.com text… got a nice retro-modern feel to it (fuck, that sounds way too much like Nathan Barley!)
provided these things don’t go silly with different fonts / clashing colours and end up unreadable (I’ve seen way too many magz and sites where this has happeneds) I wouldn’t bother too much with graphic design rules.
I have to deal with that shit at work (I help automatically create financial reports that end up in office packages and have to comply with a “house style”, and everything is in Arial with a restricted range of colours!)I’d suggest a slightly decorative sans-serif font (i.e not Arial, gill sans or any other one overused by corporates/inspired by Msoffice) for the “24 hour” live stream text, and a lighter colour (perhaps similar to the one on the “radio waves?”) for this text (and maybe some of the outline of partyvibe.com).
June 8, 2005 at 8:47 pm #1065897i like the first version, but maybe with a different font
wicked design USE
wish i could offer moe technical help, but don’t even have photoshop 😥
June 10, 2005 at 8:50 am #1065887Does anybody know the ideal software to create an animated gif?
I might give it a go myself to lay a text cycle over USE’s graphic.
Photoshop?

image ready, i beleive.
June 10, 2005 at 6:15 pm #1065888Cheers mate, i’ll give it a look. If anyone else wants to try a hand it though then that would be great!
Or if anyone has a completely new design idea then lets hear it!
May 19, 2006 at 6:00 am #1065873i can do reasonable flash banners and such if you want me to have a wee do
May 19, 2006 at 11:22 am #1065902Anonymous
i already made one and its up but i dont have access to a computer with flash on and i never got round to making it a clickable link. feel free to make another one if you want tho.
May 20, 2006 at 6:08 am #1065868Col wrote:i can do reasonable flash banners and such if you want me to have a wee doYeah, please do…
May 20, 2006 at 12:37 pm #1065874there’s no pressure on timescale is there.
i could use the images that the other creatives have made in the flash movie making it something of a community contribution as well as any text logo’s sound effects or bg music you want in it.
Send the graphics/text etc to C_o_l(at)btopenworld.com
or post them here
May 20, 2006 at 12:42 pm #1065869USE has a few bits for the rest feel free to use anything from the gallery…
May 20, 2006 at 12:51 pm #1065875sound
Use: can you post up what bits of work you have done and would like included in the flash banner, i can use your artwork as the background and attach whatever scripts are needed to make it functional, linkable blah blah
May 22, 2006 at 1:48 pm #1065876I’m making a start on it now
http://www.postcodepoker.co.uk/partyvibe_project_Col/index.html
I’ve rubbed out the bits that people were not keen on in Use’s Image and can use that area for text and links, can you tell me what text you would like and what links you would like built in to it and whether there are any images etc you’d like to include.
cheers Col
May 22, 2006 at 1:51 pm #1065877dont worry too much about the timing and stuff ill sort that later, if any of the music makers wanted to make a nice looped sample for the sound track that would save me some time too
May 22, 2006 at 2:27 pm #1065903Anonymous
i’ll post over the flash doc at some point soon, its on a cpu in stoage atm as im homeless.
do we really want music attatched to the banner? my personal veiw would be “fuck that” as unsolicited music popping up on sites is up there with pop-up banners getting in the way of my mouse in terms of annoyance.

The only situation where I think sound might be useful is when you roll over certain parts of the banner. I think that’s what Col meant anyway.
Col, I’ll send you USE’s original design too (which I like best) It’s a static Jpg but maybe you can get some ideas from that too.
