March Emission to have rather wicked line-up shocker

Emission is set to kick off once more on Friday, March 31 with a seriously kicking line-up featuring guests 4-Hero, Randall and nu skool king Freq. Nasty. We'll be rolling out the phat basslines once again between 10pm and 4am at the Matrix in London Street, Reading. We've managed to secure an exclusive DJ set from the boys behind drum`n' bass pioneers 4-Hero and Metalheadz fave Randall will also be getting behind the decks. On the residents front you'll find a fired up Impact (fresh from a peaktime slot at Bristol's Joi) performing a live set linked to a three deck mixing match between DJ Hoopa and DJ Crisp as well as legendary Junkchun 10 DJs Sypha and Wolf. In the Cryonix breaks bar the boys are very very proud indeed to bring you Mr evil bassline himself Freq Nasty. The nu skool god, who is rumoured to have just signed a huge deal with Skint records, will be appearing alongside ressies Jurassik, Haze and Tizz and the silky smooth tones of MC Oxygen. Haze (2.30am-4am) is even promising one of his legendary old skool hardcore sets, so get yer white gloves and whistles out for an end of the night blinder to follow Freqy boy's set. Tickets are available from the Matrix priced at £10 or £8 for students. Unfortunately there's no discount for advance tickets but you can call (0118) 959 0687 to get yours if you have a credit card. We would definitely advise early purchase as we turned away about 600 people for our Roni Size-headlined gig last month. There may be some tickets available from the Record Basement - we'll let you know. You can check how sales are going by watching this site during the week up to the gig.

Sound problems

We'd like to apologise for the sound problems in the main room at February's gig and assure you it won't happen again. We actually brought in extra sound (courtesy of those nice chaps at FreeState) to boost things but it backfired on us when the limiter cut in. We can promise you the sound will be at least as loud as it was at the end of the night for the March gig and nothing like how it was during Roni Size's set. For those of you pissed off at paying wonga to see a rather quiet Mr Size we can only apologise. The Matrix has been having problems with sound leakage but we're assured they are no longer getting letters of complaint and it's a fact that they've been given the all-clear by Reading Borough Council environmental health. All in all the sound for March should be a lot louder and we hope you'll bear with us.

Emission Records

With massive backing from reading based freestate studios, Emission is set to launch its diverse new label early this summer. It will showcase the talent of the producers of Impact plus local reading DJ Crsip. The first releases will be strictly cutting edge drum'n bass but new styles shall be represented in the future. More Cryonix at RUSU

CRYONIX recently completed a second successful slot at Reading University Student Union. This time the breakbeat boys got the basslines booming in Cafe Mondial to support LTJ Bukem and co. in the second room. You can find out more by checking out the new website: www.cryonix.org.uk.

Emission gets monthly night at Matrix

Emissionaries will be pleased to hear we have just secured a residency at the Matrix club in London Street, Reading, on the last Friday of every month from February. First gig on Friday, February 25 will feature d 'n' b from Roni Size (Breakbeat Era), Kenny Ken and Ray Keith (Dread Recordings) plus Impact (live) Strike and Wolf (Junkchun Ten) in the main room. In the breaks bar, Cryonix ressies Jurassik, Haze and Tizz will be booming out the basslines with a very special live debut from the PVC's Bobule. Names to look out for in forthcoming months include Freq Nasty, Blim and Hyper in the Cryonix room and Krust and Goldie (tbc) in the jungle arena. Tickets at £6.50 from Record Basement, Hypnotic or Hard Edge in Reading, Hard Edge in Maidenhead, Dance II in Guildford, Slough Records, Massive in Oxford and shops tbc in Swindon, Basingstoke and Newbury. Alternately call the Matrix on (0118) 959 0687 for credit card bookings or pay £8 on the door.

New Year's Eve

For all those that saw Impact rock the main room at one free party NYE Reading event you know the score. A few sound problems didn't stop Prashant, Nij, DJ Hooper and MC Trip kick some serious jungle ass in the early hours of the first day of 2000. The night also saw strong Emission representation in the shape of Junkchun Ten, who ran their own room with hardstep d 'n' b sets from the likes of Sypha, Strike and Wolf rocking your world. At another somewhat legally dubious venue in Reading Cryonix hero DJ Haze was blasting out the breaks and bass to several hundred happy punters. Well they can hardly blame us when all the main Reading venues were charging uppers of £60 for the big night out. Nightlife bosses - ignore the underground at your peril. It kicked your ass on December 31 while most of the legal venues were half full.

Social

Emission is currently looking for a venue to stage a low-key, fortnightly or weekly event on a funky tip. Possible suggestions have included a couple of Saturdays a month at the Global Café in London Street, or maybe even 21 South Street. Music would range from hip hop to the funkier end of nu skool breaks and drum 'n' bass, with full representation from all the Emission crews. The current idea for the night is somewhere along the lines of "cutting edge music to drink beer to", with the intention being to pull in all those people who are into decent music but are currently faced with a cheesy pub if they're not up for a major mission on a Saturday night but want to go out. Would you come to an Emission social? Email your ideas to jurassik@partyvibe.com and we'll take your views into consideration.
