The Music
The music is based
on the underground drum n’ bass influences of today. Prashant
has been brought up in the rave scene and extends his style from the raw
vibe that it creates. Nij has set
his roots mainly in the club culture where he has picked up on a variety
of music styles from intelligent techno to hard drum n’ bass. The thing
the two producers have in common is breakbeats, lots of them. Creating
a groove is what they do best and a breakbeat is what helps them create
it.
The present sound is a combination of strong breakbeats with a fast ‘Electro
bass’ but the groove created by the bass is different from the majority
of the music around today. The vibe joins melody with rhythm, all the
sounds self produced (no sampling) so that a unique style is maintained.
Impact try to maintain a deep melodical edge with complex rhythms but
still keeping a dance floor feel in order to reach all types of music
followers from the techno ravers, the hard house clubbers and the full
on ‘junglizts’.
The equipment used is very basic in studio terms but the fact that its
used to the max is where the potential of the sound lies. The main sequencers
provide the ability for the sounds to be played live and defines their
unique writing style aimed for the dance floor.
When played live the tracks show their full potential. Adding the fast
lyrics of MC Trip give a new energy which projects the vibe. Intelligent
placing of samples and scratching, from records by D.J Hooper keeps the
crowd anticipating his next move. The way the tracks are sequenced and
the freestyle nature of both the MC and the D.J allow for a fully improvised
performance each time.
The fact that there is great distance between the two producers as Nij
is based in Cardiff University and Prashant
is in Reading, has not affected the music, only creating new influences
from different parts of the country. The only detrimental effect has been
the decrease in speed at which tracks and ideas can be formed together.
But investments in new equipment should solve these problem in the future
and also increasing the quality of the Impact sound. The sound is still
very young but shall mature very soon as plans for a new expansion to
the studio is underway.
