I started off with reading a few bits here and there in the quick start manual but I’ve got the furthest so far just through trial and error. It had a few lil glitches when I got it so I did a factory reset and it seems to be running a bit better. That faq looks pretty handy!

So far I’ve got it connected to the middle channel on my mixer and I’ve been using it as a sort of third deck, making my mixes more interesting by bringing in more percussion, synths and noises over the top. It seems like a good lil toy thus far.

Excellent, I just got a 505 for xmas and this should come in useful for getting round some of it’s odd quirks and nuances 🙂

If you’re looking for budget but quality without tacky price-inflating features I’d recommend looking at Citronic’s range of decks – Direct drive (essential if you’re serious about djing), with enough torque to allow you to learn the basics but not masses which I found helpful when I was learning so as to teach you to be careful and delicate with your beatmatching and cueing. They’re your basic technics clones so when/if he upgrades there won’t be a massive step in terms of getting used to design etc.

          http://www.decks.co.uk/products/decks/citronic/pd1s

225quid for a pair isn’t going to break the bank and if you decide djing isn’t for you then you haven’t really thrown too much away.

There’ll be other options for beginners out there, but I’ve got experience with Citronics so it’s what I’d recommend. Whatever you do, you shouldn’t get belt drives wink.gif

Or try and get a pair of second hand Technics.. try cash convertors or somewhere coz then even if u decide Djing ain’t for you, you will still be able to sell them on without losing much money as 1210’s hold their value and there is always a market for them

Hehehe I recognise that post Seonaid 😛 http://forum.clubdogma.com/showthread.php?t=16750 , but yeah to reiterate my point (and on a thread where I’m not going to get ripped into for suggesting non-technics decks!) I really appreciated starting on lower torque decks as the sensitivity really teaches you to be careful in your mixes and you can then go on and be able to mix on a broad variety of decks at parties/folk’s flats etc regardless of the deck. I felt that if I’d started on technics I wouldn’t have had the experience of carefully “twisting the nipple” and making gentle changes which I learnt with my Citronics.

If you start off, imo, with non-technics, then it’s an easier jump upto technics than it would be if all your experience was with technics and you turned up at a party where they had some low-torqued geminis etc and you ended up all over the place. Obviously this is just from personal experience and everyone learns differently, but that’s my 2p.

If yes then here are sum recomended vst instruments

battery – 128 sample drum machine – prob is you cant automate the parameters if you change a sample it stays like that but I needed it for logic

Dr-008 another drum machine I havent got hold of this 1 but I hear its good

Vangaurd – very good synth 4 trance riffs/ everything

Halion 2/3 – sampler useful for the keyboard/ live stuff ect (3rd needs dongle protection cracked but works fine)

Audio realism bassline – tb 303 emulator cool

              Tbl bass line

              bass station

native instruments gold is an effect package (reverb, delay, filters ect)

              who know some cool 1s?

Im looking 4 1s that take in samples and can modulate them like a synth with sample graintable stuff ect

              Reason doesn’t support vsts mate.

Just listening to Tom Baker singing “How soon is now” (from that link Globalloon posted up). Fairly stoned, itching to do some production but I’m down visiting my parents at the moment and don’t have my laptop with me. As soon as I get back northwards I’ll be able to try out my lovely brand spanking new Alesis m1 active mk2 monitors *drools*

Also try a record label called Crimson Tide, oh man, if you like your ragga, you will REALLY love thier tunes, got a CD of a mix of the label, its soooo good!! Also got a lot of Soundmurder vinyl too, its quite pricey but theres a shop called Zions Gate online that does the best

Excellent, that looks like a good mix (perhaps cause I’ve bought quite a few of those choons recently) – an admirable tracklist indeed. Summat about Canada though, loads of new ragga jungle labels starting up, releasing some really good stuff. I’ll try to remember to download this when I get back to my flat at the weekend (will save me from having to go to the effort of mixing my own choons  ).

Most folk I know in Edinburgh in their late teens/early twenties who aren’t in full time education, and predominantly those involved in the free party/techno scene all seem to work in call centres, in particular Mori market research. The hours appear to be quite flexible and the pay above minimum wage. The only problem a lot of my mates have is that there are so many people employed there they often have difficulty managing to book enough shifts. I’ve never really felt an inclination to work there, however. I know how annoying it is to have random phonecallers, although market research isn’t quite as bugging as having folk trying to sell you a new kitchen etc.

Yer, I’m staying in Aberdeen at the moment, and even from there Inverness is still over 100miles further North West.

Also, one of the only roads up to Inverness (short of having to go up the coast), and by far it’s main communication route is the A9, which is known as one of the most dangerous roads in Britain in terms of accidents, with many many blackspots. The mind boggles at the thought of 20,000 extra folk driving (give or take for those going by plane/train) up there.

                            This doesn’t bode well.

Me and my flatmate just got our wireless network set up, and we went with plus.net for our broadband. It seems to be a pretty good deal – no set up fee, 14.99 a month, unlimited downloading, 2mb connection – tis all pretty swish. Last night I was getting a download speed of 200 kbps while my flatmate was downloading music on his laptop aswell as ragging away on halo2 on xbox live at the same time so it seems to be fairly good from where I’m sitting.

My family have wanadoo and have just recieved a notice saying they exceeded their 2gb monthly download limit and thus broke their terms of service. ooer. They’re paying 17.99/month for a 1mb connection with only a 2gb cap limit? Methinks I got a better deal.

Your right it’s a European term, but it’s more along the lines of heavily distorted hard techno, the wikipedia definiton is:

Schranz is the name given to European hard techno, a style of techno typically around 140-150 BPM and based around massively bass-heavy kick drums, driving percussion and distorted, looping synth noises. The term originated in 1994 when Chris Liebing used it to describe a certain type of techno in a record store he ran; it has no particular meaning in any language. Some important producers in the genre are DJ Amok, DJ Rush, Sven Wittekind, The Anxious, Arkus P, Tom Hades and Patrik Skoog.

Kinda handy, as I’ve realised that geography’s actually shite and I’m planning on changing my degree to Sociology and taking Anthropology with it next year (well that’s the plan at the moment anyhoo).
