Yes, the contemporary shit sucks. I did all the towny clubbing thing as a fresher a few years ago. I even still enjoy it if I’m really fucked and don’t care too much, but I generally hate everything about that scene now.

Yeah I know the sort. Fortunately not encountered anyone like that on the scene yet, except him. He doesn’t actually say he’s a druid or anything, he just thinks he can answer people’s problems and gets really preachy doing it.

I think it’s arrogant for anyone to think they hold answers to everything. In most cases we’re too flawed and too ignorant in for our ‘answers’ and opinions to actually be valid.

He did ridiculous amounts of drugs when he was younger and said mental health issues run in his family. He told me he’s known people who’ve gravitated towards psytrance that have turned into a social comatose and messed themselves up badly. Why is it people throw their body and soul behind these things? I’ve never understood symbols. People attach meaning to them when there is no meaning… it’s just some artwork on a cloth. Yet somehow it gets interpreted as an excuse for stabbing someone else in the ribs.

Check out the recent riots in Belfast that went on for weeks, because they decided to only fly the Union flag over the town hall on certain days of the week. Think how petty that is. Violence, death, destruction over a meaningless symbol. People need to grow up!

I went to a student night at some commercial/townie club for the first time in a while last night. No drugs, just got stupidly drunk. I’d basically written them off but I had a really good time! I think it helped that I didn’t bother looking for mates when we got separated. When I went more often in my freshers year I remember a lot of nights that involved a lot more standing at the bar, looking for mates and sitting down or standing in the smoking area than actual dancing. Probably got some funny looks just raving on my own but fuck em. Too rat-arsed to give a shit! :weee:
