      Seventh victim of shooting spree

By Ben Ashford And Paul Rhys

TRAGIC Zainab Kalokoh was the seventh person to be shot on Peckham’s streets in little more than a week, the South London Press can reveal.
In the 10 days leading up to her murder, four men were mowed down by machine-gun fire, a partygoer was blasted in the stomach and a mystery gunman pumped bullets into a fleeing clubber. Miraculously, they all survived.
In another terrifying assault, a biker chased and fired at four men and women before speeding away.
Police patrols in Peckham have been stepped up in response to the chilling wave of violence that South-wark’s top officer insists is an “anomaly”.
Chief Superintendent Ian Thomas said: “These incidents are not linked. The situation is not out of control.”
Zainab Kalokoh, 33, was holding a relative’s six-month-old baby girl, Adama, when she was shot in the head as alleged robbers raided a christening on the Wood Dene block, Acorn Estate.
Her heartbroken family revisited the community hall for the first time yesterday as it emerged the bullet that killed her may have been fired into the air and ricocheted off the ceiling.
The August 27 killing came 10 days after four men were cut down with a semi-automatic gun in a car park off Neville Close, Peckham.
A day earlier, a biker had chased down and fired at two men and two women in Choumert Grove, Peckham Rye.
And on August 21, a 19-year-old was blasted twice in the stomach after a leaving a nightclub in Old Kent Road and a partygoer was gunned down in Penarth Road, Peckham. They are not thought to be connected.
Chief Supt Thomas said: “It is worrying that so many people have been shot in such a short space of time but I believe this is an anomaly – it is not a normal state of affairs.
“Our overall record on gun crime across Southwark has shown a 20 per cent drop in the last year, bucking the trend for rising gun crime across the Met.
“We have put major resources into fighting gun crime. We will chase these people down and prosecute them.”
Althea Smith, head of the Southwark Police and Community Consultative Group, and an Acorn Estate resident for more than 20 years, said: “This is a frightening trend – but it is also reality. We need people to come forward and tell the police who these gunmen are.”
Information on any of the above shootings to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Brothers aged 14 and 16 are in custody charged with murder and armed robbery over the death of Zainab Kalokoh.
Both from South London homes, they will make a second appearance at Camberwell Green Magistrates Court on September 7.Information to 020 8247 4554.

        Sad/worrying stuff.

How will the legal system deal with them if they are charged with the murder? Will it be youth detention centres then moved in to regular prisons at 18?

I hadn’t realised the robbery was carried out at a christening either. Harsh.

yes, although adult prison is usually at age 21. Although thankfully I’ve never been in YOI, some friends have and the régime is harsher as its all young men trying to prove themselves – a lot of bullying. Rather like an English prep school on which these institutions are based (but less racists!)

particularly as its taken to be a really big sign of how society is breaking down amongst the black community, that peopel even think of taking lives at a celebration of a new life

incidentally have you noticed the lyrics in pendulum’s “tarantula” are actually all about how cheap life is becoming and how insincere people are when a life is lost?

Sad… kids on the stretts trying to be big MEN, with no rules… Oh my word, who’s seen “City of God’s”… could you imagine living their… if we’re not careful, seems like we’re heading that way, maybe slow but we’re getting there… you can almost be guranteed that some sad retard is leading these kids down the wrong line, worse still is’t a sad time when our youth look up to people like this and carry out actions like that, deadfull… the hate they learn, disregard for the things that are important till the only thing that means anything is what their gangs think and the MONEY/ DRUGS… It sounds as if some business has gone badly wrong or someones trying to prove their ego is bigger, their a bigger man…
For anyone to know or allow actions like that to happen or even ask them to be carried out…
Crime and Get back used to, in a way be quiet a class thing… carried out in a, to the point manner but respectfully in the way that… most would go out their way to stear clear of weddings, funerals, christenings… school and the parks… Any were that kids were about, the adults seemed to have more class in the way they didn’t have kids invovled in big boys shit… Direct… not just aimlessly in the streets.

I know crime is a negative but you know… i’m not anti it… and at times for different reasons it can be acceptable and maybe the best option… but hell, to going causing misery, fear, sadness to all around on a large scale than it first appears… to try wiping someone out completely?…
Not even our law says is that bad to be exucuted for, what ever happened to just putting them out of action, stopping business… Humans are worth a bit more than just a bullet?.. not all problems are supposed to solved straight away.

It is time the community to together as a whole to look out for each other and to make sure that the power freaks don’t win… Scaring them into doing nothing, Damn, what’s the worst that could happen?… sounds like it’s happening already!
My heart goes out to those poor people… Bless them xx
