more a check of opinions rather than a suggestion…

this forum (as a single forum on the main board) contains (as would be expected) a lot of normal chat about parties like reviews, discussion on the legal and wider social/political aspects, peoples memories of good events…

but at present it also contains a lot of technical information about parties and sound systems (some of which also turns up in the “Music”) section, and what could be called “operational info” (the technical info about buildings etc used to make parties enjoyable but hopefully also safer for all attending).

Whilst the “normal” chat would be popular with all, I appreciate that not everyone (apart from rig owners) may want to read about the best ways to arrange electric power for their rigs or the finer(!) points of the electrical and mechanical services of industrial buildings…. others, who may have equally good info to contribute here may be even intimidated by “techie” posts (I do not know why 😉 ) but some are…

I’ve noticed we lack a forum for discussing other tech problems with computers and personal electronic equipment (which is found on other boards)..

so what does everyone suggest? setting up another forum for tech info or leaving everything as it is? I don’t want to create a “rig owners / punters” them and us situation either – so I’d suggest if we did have a “technology” forum to keep it mixed with anything from computer equipment to rigs and perhaps even transport facilities (cars, vans and bikes) permitted – basically anything electrical, electronic or mechanical that can be used to assist a party…

Sounds good to me. I for one would enjoy the new ‘Techie’ forum.

Because i’m a geek like that.

          If there’s a need I have no objections…

I don’t see the need to be honest, it is nice to keep it mixed up. I suggest not having thread titles, so it is somewhat more of a lucky dip.

I assume you meant forum titles rather than thread titles? I remember old text newsgroups where the subject lines got mangled and the thread got “de threaded” – often ended up in utter chaos that way 😀

I’d only want to see the techie section put up if there is a need or a great desire for it; it may be that others who don’t own rig equipment / get up to various activities in disused buildings are curious anyway and want to learn something…

otherwise would be happy to put rig tech info in here and other stuff (computers/personal electronics) in general chat.
