I’ve just seen there’s a new version of autogordian knot for the first time in ages…

while we’re on the subject, can anyone recommend some free software that will convert ogg vorbis files to a format that, when i burn it to dvd, will play on a regular dvd player?

It’s either mp3, ac3, wav or dts that’s used for DVD films (depends on the film and stream type).

BeSweet will transcode between the formats, and the BeSweet GUI (which is included) will let you do it without having to resort to command line…

As far as I remember (haven’t used it for a while), it also rips and de-muxes audio from video – if it doesn’t then vobraptor can.

Or you could just download the Virtual Dub Mod which takes a bit of learning how to use, but does virtually anything video file related these days (the VirtualDub Matroska mod lets it handle MKV files too…)

All open source too, so freeware…

                  DVD Shrink

                  or

DVD Decrypt (less easy to use but more powerful, better for scratched discs)

                  Then

AUTOGK for vob > avi (divx or xvid) which is easy.

Use VLC player or similar for playback.

If you have some wierd/half corrupted video files that play but wont convert, use WINFF.

And if you want to play anything on a regular dvd player youve got to check if it supports divx or xvid,or old mpeg(2)(you can fit a few movies at 2000kbit if your not fussy)
