I was washing dishes with the drop down hose that’s connected to the dishwasher at my work and my hand slipped and the hose snapped me in the face hard and now I have a huge black and blue bruise on my cheek:neutral: I love getting paid to hurt myself!

Oh and a creepy guy said I looked EXACTLY like his dog.. that’s a new level of a complimented insult

shit nobody says: I love my job

It would seem (despite declaring truthfully on my application form) issues on my CRB might suddenly be a problem. On top of that I have just had to fill out 2 medical forms stating every sodding detail of my health problems. So much for getting the fucking job why the hell they could not have told me this before they said “you have the job congratulations” I don’t know.

                Heres a tip:

                Don’t develop mental health problems
Don’t take an overdose and fuck your kidneys/blood pressure
                Don’t be born with autism
                Don’t develop depression
Don’t expect your past to ever escape you.

                Fuck it.

that doesn’t make sense as it costs the company money to do all those checks and in todays competitive market they could have found many other reasons to reject the application and save you a lot of hassle. Unless the reality was they were still making the decision and the HR person you spoke to was junior and couldn’t really confirm it but wasn’t any good at giving out bad news, a lot of younger people even in employment cannot cope with any form of bad news or setback.

I am always having to declare my drugs cautions not just for my current job but also for working with voluntary organisations as many work with kids/teenagers and CRB clearance is expected. I’ve found its often the other middle class volunteers who are more likely to judge you than those from urban estate backgrounds or the young/vulnerable people themselves, but they begrudingly put up with your presence in the groups because its “good for diversity” or you are doing something they have become dependent on.

Its the working with venerable people and the mental health problems that look likely to cause the issue. Plus the criminal damage caution. I can see why people turn to crime I really can.

That sucks photo, chin up fella. Is there not still a chance of you getting the job?

It might not look good on your application admitting to any mental health issues but it looks worse for the employer turning away an employee such as yourself after their initial application and interview were successful.

you’ve already declared them once, its far more problematic and costly for a company to go through all the checks than reject your initial application as if you really suspected genuine discrimination you could take action in either case…

where I work they would either ask you directly at an interview whether your health problems would affect your work performance or tell you there and then whether a criminal record would be a major issue (a recent record for theft/dishonesty or any sort of violence would be unacceptable whereas someone who is 45 having been nicked as a juvenile for a very minor offence but committed no further offences since would be tolerated). For young people with a drugs record they may be supervised to prevent risk of diversion (even I cannot get into certain areas at work easily or unsupervised).

what will and has got people rejected or even fired in service is thinking that they don’t have a record when they do as its seen as lying and our own findings that employing younger people with certain mental health issues can actually make them worse as we deal with high workloads as well as illness, death and challenging situations every day and its psychologically difficult for even experienced trained folk to cope with – but its would be seen as far worse by the professional bodies that regulate us to give someone the idea that they were successful for an application when that had not been the case.
