The IRA let off many more than 5 bombs a year when I was growing up and even managed to assasinate several politicians. Although there are less bombs today no one won in the end, there is still bitterness and the peace process is fragile.

On the same day there was tens of thousands of people marched in Belfast for peace in Northern Ireland, as a protest to recent paramilitary activity. This union from both sides of the conflict got barely any coverage, yet 25 odd protesters did. Also, there were two other soldiers parades on the same day, which passed without any trouble.

This is more because since devolution NI is treated by the London-based media as “foreign”. (So is Scotland!) Its also still classed as a theatre of war and a dangerous area for the purposes of the media so most of the journos what would report from there are in “iraqistan”.

Most of the former paramilitaries what haven’t got nicked (and some who have) have turned or returned to criminal activity particularly with the economic downturn and NI still being blighted by the Troubles. I have been monitoring the recent resurgence in violence and there are young lads what weren’t even born when it first kicked off willingly and knowingly getting involved.

if/when the recession bites further there, if the govt and society do not respond quickly I wouldn’t rule out a return to the bad old days.

Yeah, but how are they changing our way of life? British culture and way of life hasn’t changed! I know about global attacks.

And this won’t be a popular view, but the West is reaping what it has sown. I don’t condone any violence and this is not meant as disrespect to innocent victims anywhere, but the reason these attacks are happening have fuck all to do with religion fundamentally. The history of how the West have treated Muslim countries and Arabic countries over the past hundreds of years, right up till the implementation and continued support for Israel, the gulf war… the CIA fucking trained Al Queda.

I do think British culture and way of life is changing slightly. Like anti terrorism laws being bought into play, phone and email tapping shit.

I agree with you on the second bit though me ol mucker. This shit has been going on since the crusades, sad to say it but the violence will never ever end. :crazy_diz

that bit hasn’t actually changed all that much, its only the technology. in the 1970/80s the cops did exactly the same things in todays anti terrorism laws (and worse!) anyway as they weren’t as regulated. for instance all Metpol CID officers could keep a pistol at home and carry it at all times with only basic firearms training and unsurprisingly lots of innocent people got shot at. One journo/writer of the time got with the former girlfriend of a local villain, and completely unknowingly happened to have a similar motor as the robber and the met riddled it (and him) with bullets!

Also although the internet wasn’t permitted to civllians then, telephones and of course mail were both run by the Post Office and they were completely part of the Government and although there were supposed to be warrants it only took the say so of a Superintendent for intercepts to be carried out. Even when British Telecom was privatised the Govt kept a stake in it until 1992 and when they wanted something tapped they sent a Home Office Dtels (directorate of Telecommunications) engineer into the Exchange to do the intercept.

Oh and all these problems started brewing 10 years ago but people didn’t give a fuck as the economy was in a good state and with younger people the drugs were better. Worse still, part fo the Islamic problem in the UK was caused by Conservative politicians telling British Asian parents to get their wayward sons back into religion rather than taking drugs!

Our country is in a state. What the fuck am I supposed to do? I want to help, give me ways that I can help and do something for the raving community and I will try the hardest I can whatever ….

I do feel though we could be fighting for a lost cause as I feel the whole free party ideal is no longer what it was when I first started raving.

I maybe wrong, please correct me!!! But the idea of a free party for me is for like minded folk getting together somewhere/anywhere that doesn’t cause disturbance to the locals and to dance your asses off until the rig goes home. We dont want to upset or offend anyone! All we want to do is dance to music!!!!!

Some of my best nights out have involved travelling half the country with shit directions written on cases of beer/ fag packets, passenger window etc. but we will get to the party in the end… hundreds of miles travelled but the end is worth it.

I personally belive the party ethos needs to be considered, honestly how many of you go to parties to make a quick buck?

We dont need you we can all stomp and enjoy ourselves fine!!

If you just answered yeas, FUCK OFF we dont need you…

I’m incredibly confused. What has this got to do with anything we’ve been talking about? I don’t really understand your point mate.

That’s not the Muslim extremists though, New Labour jumped at the first excuse to destroy civil liberties and privacy rights, in the name of “anti-terrorism” despite terrorism having been active in various forms for decades.

OK, I’ll admit we have a fight on our hands. But the fight is to unite, not to promote segregation. There are enough decent people living in intergrated harmony in this country that proves religion and race is a non-issue, we just need to not let idiots from minority parties threaten this. The way to do this is not to ignore it, but certainly not to allow it to fuel hatred either. And I can guarantee people will vote BNP because of the outrage of this one protest.

You are exactly right, over-simplifying things doesn’t help, but neither does a simple reaction. Organised religion is politics in my opinion – right down to how religious leaders gained influence, why people are so impressionable – it’s all intertwined with politics.

The downside of a free media and a capitalist society perhaps 🙁

the first parts of this happened in the mid 1990s before Labour returned to power, it was Michael Howard and John Major clamping down on the protest culture and a subsequent rise in drugs use.

To be fair the main thing recent governments have done is actually be honest about how much powers they are prepared to use. in previous years they just did it anyway, with much more use of the covert security services (MI5/6) and the Special Branch of the Police, as well as a lot more psychological and physical intimidation of dissenters.

                                                FUCKING SNOW!!

I got bored so decided to go out and see the snow, got my car stuck in a ditch at about 9pm took about 45 mins to get out. I then crashed properly about five minutes later, cut and bruised to fuck, puking up and freezing my tits offabout 4 hours to get home… No work tomorrow for me… I want to die 😥
