for free parties its not so much a matter of someone saying they are not welcome because they are thugs but more a matter of not letting these people get partylines in the first place – and it does also need their own “friends” not passing on info and perhaps being selective about which areas parties are held in..

we all know people who tend to be a bit aggressive; and sometimes although it can be harsh its a matter of dropping them out of the loop for a bit until they either calm down or get bored of asking about parties, preferring to stay in town centres where they can “get away” with fighting.

if these people then deliberately attend a free party with the intention of causing trouble then an amount of reasonable force in self defence is OK; but it has to be a last resort or it can get to the point where people get seduced by violence and it becomes part of the scene like in “Londonistan” where due to the violence many crews have either stopped partying or gone back to legal(ish) events – essentially the nanny state has won, as ravers have proved they can’t self regulate.

I hope this doesn’t happen outside London too…

it is difficult as the problem is that too many people look up to fighters and “hard men” as part of street culture; and have got used to accepting a certain amount of trouble (and agrressive attitudes at parties) as routine. This has to stop as eventually a punch will be met with a knife, and a knife with a gun, just like in our inner cities.

Its scary to watch it happening, but you can definatly see it just in the last few years, so much more violence is around everywhere… but more worrying is the fact that a lot of it is just meaningless violence. I know far too many people that have been started on for no apparent reason and by people they’ve never met before. saturday nights around the pubs are just a joke, even in small towns.

agreed, definately. our two small local towns are a no-go area a lot of nights, just walkin through them you can get beaten up quite easy. and thats in a relatively “good” area. for example, me mate got a glass bottle chucked at him for being a “camp bastard” (or so they shouted) – because he had his hair dyed and happened to be wearin a topman catalogue. the pubs are populated by chavs who get spurred on to violence by a lotta booze, coke and mates.

and these dickheads are looked upto by many… its pretty hard to have a decent night out anymore, for many of us it’s very select pubs or drinks round a mate’s house instead – bloody cheaper too.

to be honest the under 21 thing might have summat to do with that. i could get served everywhere till they brought that in. now its hit and miss 😥

yep thats definitely true and it was bad even 5-10 years ago…

The reason why ravers were able to cane the Ridgeway a few years back wasn’t because the cops were tolerating it; it was simply that their resources were tied up dealing with all the trouble in towns like Newbury, Thatcham, Theale, Pangbourne etc..

also the threshold at which people resort to violence has lowered and the taboo about public violence (which will of course eventually get you nicked!) has disappeared.

In the 90s I saw only a handful of fights at raves. Its not that my friends were all angels (far from it, half of them ended up in rehab or jail!) and people obviously had disagreements -althuogh big raves sometimes had trouble it just wasn’t thought acceptable to fight at an outdoor rave or an smaller underground event where people were mostly friends (and TBH even on the estates and streets things were a lot quieter until about 1994 or so.)

One big problem though is our society gives double standards – our government thinks its OK for our soldiers to bully foreigners to get their oil, our national broadcaster shows a drama programme where people get away with fighting and domestic violence (OK the characters go to jail but its shown more as a holiday camp than the reality), sportspeople seem to get away with violence at games and beating up their partners – how are youths expected to behave after seeing this?

Not only do they have a double standard but you are more likely to see violence than sex on tv [dont go to the cinema so couldnt comment]. Apparently its more damaging to see people having sex than beating the crap out of each other :you_crazy:you_crazy:you_crazy

              Get it sorted

I agree so much with you on this one, in our culture at this time the population is so massively influenced by the power of our media, i like to think that i’m open minded, but i am sure in many ways i’ve been manipulated without my knowing.
Every day in the newspapers we are told detailed stories about violence, we watch films and teleivision which glamourises the violence, reality tv shows full of arguing and bitching, no intellectual converstations are aired. Don’t get me wrong, one of my favourite films is battle royal, but I’m sure that too much of these images would make me feel it was more socially acceptable.

it so sad that we have to deal with judgement constantly, through our gender, our race, the way we dress and the steriotype we live up to

there is always that danger with “freedom of expression without regulation”… people don’t know when to stop (for instance you’ve got US soldiers trading pics/videos of the IRaqi civillians they have shot up for online porn) – its a shame as the backlash is only going to be greater censorship and restriction on freedom; and the Internet is easier than ever before to censor and monitor (the Chinese cracked the technology problems with regard to censorship, the Western companies turned it into a corporate run network where only about 5 companies handle the data traffic)

Also a lot of the problems with todays media is there is a lot of negativity within the industry.

When peoples jobs were more secure and working in the media was a bit more fun the programmes were also a bit more positive – OK they may have been anarchic but they had a sense of enjoyment and achievment about them, but now everyone is competing with each other for the next bit of work and the conflict carries through to the kind of programmes that get made today

OK I don’t think news should ever be censored and if there is war and crime about it should be reported on- but has anyone noticed that every TV show today, even the entertainment shows seems to be about competing for something?

(I rarely watch TV any more)
