i found this interesting, not sure how it could impact on the underground dance music distribution, but it could help (and i get the feeling the whole industry is in crisis)

I even feel that eventually the “mainstream” pop music business may cease to exist because of the downloading culture – the big money will be taken out of it as the world hits another bear market and recession. Already lots of mainstream labels are downsizing heavily.
Of course people aren’t going to give up enjoying music – there will still be performances (including DJ’ing) and recorded music, but there might be less “rock stars” – increasingly things will be done on a tighter budget and aimed at more specialised groups of music lovers.
People may not be able to “give up the day job” but I think it might actually improve things as more people become involved in music for love instead of just making money (whilst this distribution method is at least trying to help people cover costs rather than being totally “free”)
