personally i think mp3 mixin an such is the work of the devil :yakk:

lol jkn aside what u probaly want is traktor accompanied by a hercules mixin console (? not sure on spellin, u know the big strong chap)

traktors like industry standard mixin software (i think) but u wud need a controller to go with it rlly.

ill look into what youve mentioned cheers mr owlz 🙂

im only going ‘digital’ because ive finally excepted my time as a dj is coming to an end … i just cant afford the equipment i need and the lad i dj with owns the decks now so their stationed at his house practising is out the question so its all a bit sad really …

getting something like the behringer i mentioned would just enable to me to play at home and something like p.v radio …

          i dunno really *scratches head*

personally i would recommend abelton every time. its a fantastic program that gives you some much versatility. if there is something you want to achieve on ableton, there is normally always a way to do it. when i started on ableton i would only use my keyboard and a mouse, now i have behringer bcr2000 midi controller and it is sooo good and really really fun.

well i have had experience with behringer stuff before and generally its crap. i think the midi controllers might be the exception. this controller is very user friendly, does everything you could want of it and is well built. so far i have had no problems! and if its good enough for daftpunk to use live then its good enough for me.

traktors pretty good but yeah you do need a controller, theres no feel or skill using a mouse, and tbh, for beat matching no real skill at all anyway.

pm me for a link to get it free

its true, if your mixing style is only beatmatch then cross fade then you really should stick with decks and enjoy the art of beat matching. i like ableton and alike because your dj sets become more like live remixes, i would say that it was half djing and half production.

where would you stick the behringer into a set up?

im confused as to what youd need to have it alongside the decks …

                        you wouldn’t use decks! :omg_no: :omg_no: :omg_no: :omg_no: :omg_no: :omg_no:
if you wanted to use decks as well you could use your computer and midi controller as a real time effects processor for what ever you are playing on your decks. or as a sampler for some nice loops or even a drum machine.

as a sampler would be top … but theres plenty of consoles for that very same purpose so thatd be a waste ‘a time!

i dunno what to do …

i need something that will enable me (with ease) to mix mp3s … more at than for party use … my knowledge is lacking and my computer is turd … any suggestions?

Get 2 iPooo’s and just mix by adjusting the volume? always have a good selection of tunes on you… or is that useless advice mate 😉

I’m not that clued up with regards to Mp3 midi controllers but the suggestions made already seem pretty decent.

I’d opt for Abelton Live or Traktor as the software and then buy a decent midi controller. I’m not sure but I think the Nuo4 (which is a quality dj mixer for decks) has midi capability for controlling MP3’s etc.

There is plenty of hardware out there that does the job I guess, just look around for something in your budget and then browse the reviews on the net to make your final choice.

Again, I’m not sure about the PC spec required for MP3 mixing, but if your PC is on it”s last legs and tends to conk out then the only option may be for you to upgrade.

Traktor is ok i suppose it all depends on how you want to control your mp3s? do you want to be using a control surface that resembles near enough real mixing? If so you might want to look into serato scratch live or tarktor. With these programs you can use your existing decks whether they be cd or vinyl to control mp3s. This works by using special control records and cds. Your mixer is then plugged into a special interface which plugs into your computer. So anything you do to the record on the platter will automatically happen to the mp3 that your computer is playing.
Then there is ableton which Is my personal favourite as it is much more unconventional and will probably be very different than anything you have ever done before unless you have ever tried your hand at producing. Ableton is basically like a very very advanced itunes or something. you have a screen in which you can choose to set up as many channels as you like in each channel you will load a selection of mp3s. You can load in as many different mp3s as you like to each channel but you cant fade between mp3s in the same channel that’s why you add lots of different channels, I don’t use anymore than 5. Before playing you can load in all the songs that you might be likely to play. You can then roughly arrange them in the channels and colour coordinate them so you know where your 89 acid house selection is. The difference between mixing on decks and ableton is that you do all your beat matching before hand. You have to go through your mp3 selection and add a warp points every time there is a beat. This means that ableton will sync all of your tracks together perfectly when you are playing and they will all stick to a set tempo. This leaves you free to get really creative with your mixing by adding lots of different effects, cutting and adding loops and with abelton you can even wack in new beats on the spot. It really is a completely new way of mixing. Ableton can auto warp tracks but some times it gets it a bit wrong.
The nuo 4 is a sicccccc mixer! Unfortunately for something like ableton it wont really give you enough control you need loads of buttons and knobs. You should check out some you tube demos. If your computer is slow I would recommend ableton live 5 it runs on my old ibook quite nicely and personally its my favourite version. Hope this helps a bit.

i’ve been toying with ableton for some time and recently paid up for version 7. this was after getting a new laptop ‘2 core 2ghz+2gb ram’ which i thought would provide ample power, however even with this i was using upto 70% processing power particularly with the arpeggiator effects. basically if you want the full operation of ableton you need a fairly upto date pc and a lot of time trying to figure it all out!

i reckon i’ll get a more potent full size pc as Ableton does allow you to transfer operation to a 2nd PC, i’ll use the laptop solely for the 2007 analogue Korg legacy software +Korg Kontrol midi unit recently bought and link it as a plug in to ableton on the main PC.
you can get access a demo of the korg software which is well worth it as the sounds are superb
