the skatepark seems like a good idea (even though I’m defo way too old for that) as then youths wouldn’t have to go to Ipswich for skating which is a fair few miles away..

the music project is good – but it also builds up all these youths’ hopes that they can do something in the local music/arts scene – and then the moment they get a bit older and try to put on a legal event for themselves they get loads of obstacles placed in their way (friends of mine have experienced it at first hand) – there are only a few venues in the whole of suffolk that will host any sort of underground music event, particularly to run later than “conventional bedtime” and every time one happens the feds always quiz the managers as if its a fucking tidy weekender, not a pub night..

the legal (Human Zoo) event got called off due to whinging nimbys..

its slightly better in Norfolk but the councils have been increasingly clamping down and caving in to nimby noise complainers (FFS why live in the city and whinge about noise?) and loads of music venues been closed down

then society wonders why people get angry, desperate, take stupid risks to do illegal events and we end up with situations like last weekend..
