I used to DJ on an internet radio but not DJing as you know it.. just playing tracks w/sam broadcaster .. did a trance slot. No talking though, ruins the music imo, it’s why I don’t listen to radio.

On the community station I work with (and some others i’ve produced shows for in the 90s) they have to talk as its a Ofcom rule and when done well its OK (for instance the ASOT shows on 538, where Armin hosted amongst other things a phone in with a winner of the up and coming producer competition…). I agree there are way too many muppets what talk too loud and all over the vocals (and if they do not know how microphones work and what are good ones they can sound really rough, there’s a few online stations that have got turned off after 5 minutes listening for this reason)

I keep meaning to actually do a live trance show on PVR and will get round to it and have the kit to do proper voiceovers (including speaker muting and mic on lights I built using a arduino) but whilst I can see the value of interaction with listeners can’t see the point of announcing every track when you could just send the tracklist as a forum post or tweets.

            Do it!!

To be fair a little bit of talking is fine, but I mainly listen to radios for music not for chatshows so it annoys me when you get a 3 minute song followed by adverts followed by 5 minutes of talking.
If it was discussion about something relevant to the music or something along those lines it’s cool too.

when people are listening on band II (normal FM radio) I can understand the need for talking, as you only have RDS display sometimes and aren’t allowed to keep changing it in the UK – for instance I am monitoring the indie show on ICR and they were talking about effects pedals for geetars and some other stuff which you would expect them to do. I was chatting to one of the guys who works for the traffic (scheduling) at ICR and he will not put more than 2 ads in a block with promo/jingles as we are all ex-pirate broadcasters and don’t want bullshit “this is heart” type radio 😉

Make sure you let me know when you’re going to do it, i’ll definitely listen. Will be interested to see what sort of artists you play.

Yeah that’s how it should be – I understand ads are needed for revenue but some radiostations really do take it to the extreme.

Back in 2000/2001 my friend had a radio tranny and we had our own little radio station broadcasting out the valley of upper portslade and mile oak. Good times No real DJing went on as he only had his PC rigged up to it. We use a program called reduga (red-do-ga)

LOL when I wasn’t there he would play some awful music like chart stuff etc. I would use his napster or limewire to get some real music and sometimes some virus’s as hidden extras.

RIP energy FM 106.6 (awfully close to all the busy sussex stations like juice 107.2 and southern FM 103.5) Bit silly of him really. He sould have gone to a less busy band to be fair.
