The Goa scene hasn’t always been like this, previously locals, cops and authorities expressed serious concern it was run by “western gangs” and was even “a new form of colonialism!”,

There were also more amusing anecdotes like the authorities wondering just what on earth was happening to all the ketamine as the vets in Goa declared how much they had – it was only used on cats [1] and monkeys [2] rather than large animals yet there was enough going through Goa for the entire small animal population of Asia..

Until recently it was seen as a “western” scene; however from other reports on psy-forum is becoming increasingly the case that locals are accepting this as equals and taking part as well – providing both entertainment and resources – the enjoyment of music and socialising is of course universal across cultures.. This is an excellent report – pople in the UK and Europe could certainly learn from what has happened in India..

Hey guys, went to a wicked party the other day. icon_twisted.gif It was in the middle of a gorgeous forest, every1 drives motorbikes here so it looked like a Hell’s Angels convention outside.

The music was good, tech-trance and the stack was thumping, 12K. The most impressive thing was the attitude of the locals. Rather than getting themselves all hot and bothered they decided to make a profit from it! There were dozens of ladies with tea stalls set up on the ground and blokes selling alcohol, rizla, even loo roll! Also guys outside offering taxi service. Now that’s progress! No babalon, no problem.

icon_idea.gif But…there were loads of glowy raversand uv lights, but no glowy gear. So if any1 knows how to make uv jewellery get your bum over to Goa, you’d make a fortune

[1] pet cats in India are often half/quarter Asian jungle cat. They are good pets and mousers, but tend to give the vet a hard time!

[2] you need a monkey license. These are hard to get unless you are rehabilitating nuisance monkeys, the Indians would rather the monkeys are free instead of in captivity!

from the reports i was hearing, i thought i’d never get a chance to party that island, as the scene looked like it was going to be stopped..

I’d still keep a close ear to the ground though – just like England some areas are bound to be more tolerant than others. OTOH I think with India’s new found economic confidence (due to the outsourcing) they may be seeing western hippies as less of a threat (they’re probably funding their holiday with their redundancy payoff when their admin/IT job got outsourced!) I know some indian people who regularly go back and forth across the country though so I’ll post any further reports.
