Poor grammar skills that mean they can’t pronounce the word ‘holiday’? It’s just a shot in the dark, but grammar’s the difference between knowing your shit and knowing you’re shit!

I sometimes say holla instead of hello, its probably cos i’ve heard it in american movies and i’m trying to sound cool.

                    hol·ler
                    /ˈhälər/
                    Verb
(of a person) Give a loud shout or cry.
                    Noun
                    A loud cry or shout.
                    Synonyms
                    verb. shout – cry – yell – whoop – exclaim – bawl – call
noun. shout – cry – yell

“Give us a shout” or “contact me at some point in the future” would also do the same job.

Because most people are so busy gassing that it usually takes volume to get noticed? I’d guess it’s something like that.

I might start saying this from now on … “It’s yo boy Daft woop at me brah” :laugh_at:

No no. Woop is for gibbons. It’s a flange for baboons.

The word might have come into English usage during the time the UK was kicking the French out of Portugal and Spain… seems reasonable to me the locals would shout “Hello” if a bunch of armed red coats arrived in their neighbourhood. First known use is 1592 though, somewhat earlier.
