I’m not sure it matters what style you DJ, the equipment is generally the same isn’t it?

I used to DJ garage, then D+B, then hardcore/oldskool, then a mixture of anything and I used exactly the same equipment every time: Decks, a mixer, amp, speakers and a pair of headphones. I mean I know nowdays there’s some funky stuff you can get like digital effects on your mixer and mp3 mixing controllers for your laptop, but as far as I’m aware it’s really not style specific! The only thing that would be different would be the tunes you play and the style of mixing and maybe the type of speakers/crossover points (if setting up a big rig).

Ahh well your right there. Although i know some garage dj’s who would only use specific cd mixers as opposed to being a controllerist. But hey it’s mostly the same i guess

Yep there’s a lot of DJ’s who don’t want to be seen using laptops / controllers because its viewed as being a “button pusher” and there is a bit more fashion/bling culture on the UKG scene (having a set of CDJ2000s is also a way of saying “look how much money I’ve got”). Though ironically all the new Pioneer kit also works as a MIDI controller and that is how many DJ’s/producers have them set up.

there is a DJ equipment thread on here, I started it in tribute to one I saw on a Dutch ravers forum. Most European DJ’s are either 100% digital or use CDJ controllers. Trance seems to be 100% digital these days and many producers don’t even put out CD versions of their tracks.

Vinyl is now going the same way as going to North Norfolk to look at steam trains – still a fairly popular activity but a niche hobby. The Technics 1200 is now classed as vintage electronics according to some of my older friends who worked in sound engineering in the days of Radio Caroline and prog rock bands…

When I heard about the silent parties, I had no idea about how it is and how visitors. So I decided to take part in the event headphones. I forget that night, my life is full of fun and excitement. The organizers gave me the headphones, (we later found out that it was Silent safari, famous makers of wireless headphones for silent party best). It is a world, of silent noise.wireless sets allowed us to sites without disturbing others. Now, calm and quiet safari party is a part of my life.
