      Well it has happened….

and I wouldn’t mind so much if we had been staying up every night playing loud music (we don’t)…

our dearly beloved neighbour asked me very nicely the other day (with a smug grin on his face) “how are you?”.

      i now know why….

we have received a letter from environmental health stating there has been a complaint about noise from our house…..

OK. we have been noisy at times – it’s true…not every day – not even every week! occassionally i’ll have freinds round & we may stay up until the early hours playing a few tunes…..

WTF is the UK coming to??? One can’t even play music at moderate levels without some righteous twat complaining that someones enjoying life!

they demand their right to silence – why the fuck did they move into an area full of students & young people? Fukin TWATS!

      OK..rant over..

in total agreement – even in more socially restrictive countries like Malaysia there isn’t this insularity and love of silence – people there play loud music, blast motor-horns at all hours, (or are setting off fireworks; the Chinese in particular seem to always find an excuse to do so!)

Random animals (domestic and wild) make up for the times when the humans are asleep – yet at no time did I hear anyone complain about the noise

Yet back in Britain I am aware of ludicrous situations such as peopel in a South Oxfordshire village complaining to EHO because the local duck pond introduced a louder breed of duck (the muscovy quacks more than other common breeds!)

What worries me more is the amount of younger people succumbing to this – I’ve seen reports of 20-30 somethings calling 999 on noisy partys and raves 😡

if i’m not mistaken, you live right near the university? When I lived around there, there were plenty of students coming home drunk, enjoying themselves, lots of noise and life at late hours. There’s also the football ground… so it’s not a quiet residential part of town

I used to have a neighbour that complained if I cooked with garlic or onions!!! Some people are just shitheads, through and through.

Sometimes, when people use silly, anal rules against you, you have to use cunning in return. In the village where I grew up, there is a village Secret Army. The TSA was able to destroy vehicles and make it very clear what the historic community was about to toffy nosed wankers that came in and tried to break it down… when the OB arrived, 20 witnesses could swear “X had been in the pub all night, officer, he’s just beaten me at darts”.

it didn’t stop the house prices soaring, but it kept the arrogance of arseholes to a non-smug minimum 😉

My mates neighbours were like that. We never used to take the piss with loud music past late hours etc. Even when the tunes were on we would keep the bass to a minimum (spoiling the music) and have it fairly low. But they reckoned it shook the plates and light fittings.

As if! Only systems around the 10k+ mark start having that sort of effect on heavy(ish) inanimate objects.

Once we came back one night and played dice. They said they could hear every dice roll and it kept them up through the night. Surely they must have been listening with a glass or something to even know we were playing dice.

They finally moved out to be replaced by a younger couple (mid 20’s). But they proved GL’s theory and were pretty much no impovement. They finally forced my mate to move out through all the complaints placed (it was some sort of community flat place). The day he left they were flashing him smug smiles. Wankers.

I’m pretty lucky at my place. Never had any complaints and we have had a couple of parties too.

The number of student parties and amount of late night noise *has* decreased since you lived round this way….the uni have been threatening students with fines if there are repeat complaints about noise and anti-social behaviour…

And I did phone the environmental health officer…..and he was quite reasonable, he didn’t demand that i stop playing music. It was explained that our neighbours will be keeping a “log” of incidents and that he will contact me if and when they return the completed form.

…fck.gotta move ‘n get my son to school….

                (any babysitters on here????)

they have done this here as well (Reading). ISTR at one point they threatened to withold degrees and there may even have been a challenge in Court from the SU – they argued (quite rightly) that a degree cannot be witheld for anything other than academic misconduct.
